Did this yesterday morning before a 120 mile trip and has worked very well to remedy my console lid rattle. I’ve owned this truck for three years but have put very few miles on it because I drive other vehicles predominantly. Have tried several things to quiet the constant rattle in the console lid with no success. Had just some cheap black stick on felt sheets I got at a hobby store. I cut rectangular sections, one for each side and applied to cover the areas shown to essentially wedge the front of the lid and release mechanisms snug to the console.
In 120 miles of driving didn’t notice the lid rattling once. This rattling has bugged the crap out me ever since I bought this truck new three years ago. Hopefully I can check this off my list as resolved…upload_2025-5-19_9-14-7.jpg

Do you have pics of the felt sheets and where you placed them? Between the two bump out sections?

Oddly enough, my Tundra Limited I bought a few weeks ago already has felt installed in those spots. Must be a pretty common occurrence if they’re fixing it before delivering them now!

I’ll post a pic later today when I get out. I tried the thing where you take the cover completely apart and cover all the little latch and release areas with felt with no avail. Covering the outside edges of the two release housings has worked so far however. Evidently Toyota had the same idea as me.
After taking the lid apart, the general design of it is really quite comical…

True and wise words my friend… for you Capstone owners I’d recommend rattlesnake or leopard skin since you have the upgraded interior…..

Here’s a pic of where I applied the adhesive backed felt. Did this to both sides and has worked great. IMG_5373.jpg Love to see a photo of what Toyota is doing on the 2025’s since the lid rattle has been such an issue on the 3rd gen….

+1 for a great and cheap idea. Just 99 cents at Hobby Lobby, though I haven’t driven enough to have an opinion. Mine only occasionally creaks, but I can’t make it creak on demand anymore.

I’ll have to check this out on my 24 SR5. Every now and then I get a rattle like something is loose. I could never pin point it.

Been there, done that with no avail. First I tried the silicone grease route, where the latch mechanisms are dismantled and you grease all the moving parts. When that didn’t work I took the lid and buttons/latches apart again and applied felt in strategic areas on the release buttons, latches and where the latching mechanisms attach to the console lid with sheet metal screws.
After having the console lid apart several times to remedy the creaking, covering the contact areas of the lid where it drops into the console is the only thing that’s worked for me. I think it just puts tension on the plastic-on-plastic parts inside and keeps the rattling to a minimum. The design of the lid is very disappointing for a Toyota… looks like something GM would design.
