That was more of the dia/monologue mixed in with the music, they seem to do mainly the beets

Agreed. Take them off. Those chrome side steps were all the rage in the early 2000's. Pops had them on his Mazda and also had those chrome bed rails.

Grand Highlander. Started selling in 2023, I think. Not sure if they have it in the hybrid 30-40mpg version but …

Car is a depreciating asset, until you hit the 25-30+ year mark, assuming it ends up being a “classic”. It is not and will never be an “investment”. Emotional investment, sure. Financial investment, rarely ever. And with how we mod them, value is even more diminished esp. when considering the break-even.

Dude. Highlander. It was one of the best kid-buys we ever made. Bought it new the year and some change after we had the 1st. Game changer. Then flying colors with the 2nd kid. We liked that 2012 or 2013 so much we went out and bought a 2020 when the time to re-up and add new tech came. No ragerts.

My mom upgraded from a 05 rav4 which she loved and had from new, to a 18 highlander and she loves it a lot too. Maybe too much tech for her being older, but I did put an auto start/stop bypass in. But yeah that thing has a ton of room it’s stupid!

It’s my main beef with anything newer than 04-07ish. Too many beeps and chirps and such. Drives me bonkers. Our 2020 Highlander has em too. It’s loaded. I turned a lot of it off in the dash cluster computer menu. Lane assist first. But man. The computer beeps at me so damn much pulling in and out of the garage, it’s maddening. But the one time I turned it off, it took about three days before I clipped something because I was expecting it to beep at me. #FML

But yeah. I don’t like all the nanny shit. And I probably need to find a car without it for the youngest, she turns learner’s permit age in 4-5mos. I’ve made zero efforts to find something recently. I’d love to get her a RAV4 like the one Noah bought recently.

My work truck won't let me drive with the door open. It literally turns the parking brake on. I hate new vehicles.

Highlander has been really awesome. I’ve done the buy-new-gen-of-same-car a few times and I’m usually let down. It got even better with the 2nd one. Only thing I missed jumping from the earlier gen and skipping to the later gen was, the 2012 or 2013 or whatever it was let you swap between a center console or a seat piece, so you could have a bench for the 2nd row which was cool. But the 3rd row in the latest gen is twice as useful and comfy for hauling 6 that I can live without. They definitely improved the rear seating on the latest generation IMHO. My only real gripe after 10s of Ks of miles is rear visibility is not great with all seats up and filled. The headrests definitely contribute to blind spots, and the shape of the rear of the car, it’s constantly dirty.

Trying to help my buddy from school buy a FGT. Not once, not twice, but three times there’s been a truck listed on marketplace that has sold within 3 days, before we can get the chance to take a look at it.

He’s going to look at a first gen Tacoma tomorrow. Hopefully it goes well, he’s been driving around a really shitty accord for years and needs an upgrade.

My daughter has been driving for the last year and just got her license. She didn't like driving either of our cars at first, mine '21 CR-V EX or wife's '22 Sorento X-Line Prestige. Hers has all of the bells and whistles mine not so much. So my daughter drove in mine mostly. All of the features were too confusing for her. Then she saw my dad's truck last summer and said she wanted that for her (when I was already claiming it LOL.) Fast forward through all of the fixing it up, she is one replacement axle and a deep clean of the cab away from driving it. She'll have it for her senior year of high school but will take the CR-V to college. After that, then we get to fight over who gets the truck. I do love my CR-V, getting 33 mpg is really nice with a non hybrid.

The Highlander doesn't work for basic off-roading though. My goal would be to get something that still allows us to do the things we enjoy. If I show up to Sedona in a Highlander, @Sirfive won't let me park near him. Or merge.

Looking at bumper and tailgate, it would appear they simply grafted later-year bedsides onto the stock bed? Maybe because rust belt and bed rotten?
