I've read a few threads on those that have an OTT tune for the 5.7L Tundra but I didn't see any user comments on fuel efficiency. I've read that there is a modest increase of .5-1 mpg gain on the OTT website, I guess that depends on how you drive. Also I read a comment that the tune doesn't adjust for 35" tires but I think I read different elsewhere. I only put around 8k miles on my truck a year and I tow a 6,ooo pound travel trailer about 4 times a year for a total of about a one thousand miles total. I believe the OTT tune would be good for me especially for towing. My other impression is that this tune is very benificial for the Tacoma but with the Tundra not so much. I also have the Sprint Booster which has been great and I do like but would be removed if I go with the OTT tune. Any comments appreciated.

@JustDSM can answer these questions. But in short yes it’s a good fit. Mpg has a ton of variables driving style etc. The tune adjusts for far better shift points, throttle sensitivity and more.

Whatever this forum told me to do
    agreed.

If I was N/A, I would get the OTT tune.

Yep I think it’s worth it especially when towing. I haven’t really noticed a MPG change and it doesn’t directly adjust for larger tires, it just takes that into account in general with the improved shifting points and throttle response. So if you get a sportier tune it’ll help compensate for the larger tires with faster acceleration. The only thing thats going to truly change the feel of the 35’s is re gearing though but the tune certainly helps. The tune also changes your tow/haul mode to be much more responsive and holds gears longer. Definitely takes everything up a notch in my opinion. Not as dramatic as the Tacoma though since the Tundra is geared pretty well from the factory

When towing I found driving in S4 helps. Would you do the same with the tune?

Those 35's are going to kill your power when towing.
I've got a similar tundra and a 6k lb trailer and my 33'ish inch tires absolutely nuked my power when towing. On stock tires i could tow in S5 no problem sitting at low 2k rpm's at around 60-65mph and only need to downshift on climbs, on the larger heavier tire i would have to run in s4 and sitting at 3k rpm even when on flat grades....more than i liked.

My solution was to get a spare set of matching wheels off facebook marketplace and have a dedicated set of "towing wheels". Takes about an hour to swap tires before we head out camping and a much nicer towing experience.

Another option would be to regear.....or a supercharger.

    Just my 2-cents....

I actually haven’t towed since I got the tune but I would think going into S4 with tow/haul mode and the tune would be the way to get the most out of it.

Yes since s4 locks the converter which helps keep trans temps down. Your normal driving style doesn't change.

Generally, we try to stay away from making MPG claims. There's far too much variability in how folks drive, what gas they use, etc to make any claim on that. From our experience, some get better economy, some get worse, and most stay the same. If improving your fuel economy is your primary concern and reason you're interested in tuning, I'd generally steer you away from doing it as it'll likely just lead to disappointment. You'd be better off keeping the truck (completely) stock and spending the money you'd otherwise invest in the truck towards gas.

Tire size and gear ratio are factors we can consider in the equation. But it'll be to ensure the transmission/TCC schedules work with your desired/intended uses. It will not correct the speedometer.

For your towing duties, I think our tow-specific shift schedule and throttle configuration will help quite a bit, paired with the pretty sizeable increase in low-end/midrange torque we achieve with the N/A calibrations. It's going to pull your load as well as a naturally aspirated 5.7L Tundra can! I think you'll also find it quite a bit more enjoyable to drive without the trailer attached, too.

Reach out to one of our local retailers, who would be happy to discuss the finer details with you and potentially get you scheduled.

if I choose to re-gear later, do I need another adjustment to the tune? Thank you for your other answers.

There's a few things we can do, yes. "NEEDED" is probably a bit of a stretch. But reach out if/when that occurs, and we can discuss what you might need changed.

Jeff Tillery with Relentless Tuning in Alabama took care of me today. Went with medium spicy and that was perfect for me. Trans shift points and better performance in tow haul were my main issues. Had an hour drive home so I could gauge the shift points against some decent inclines. Held in the power band much longer and no hunting for gear.
Came home and hooked my 6x12 with 2 500 quads and took it out to hit some inclines. No hunting in tow haul and felt much more efficient. I know that’s not a huge test sample, but it was the quickest test at the time. Now I just need to re-gear and it’ll be much improved.
Well worth the time and $ in my opinion

Sounds Great! What size tires are you running and what gear ratio are you going to re-gear to?
