Now you guys have me thinking about knee braces vs not. Dammit!!

Just because I always have worn braces since my knee injuries doesn't mean there is another way that might be a better option.

I talked with my daughter tonight about it. I told her about the femur breaks and pros vs cons. I'll let it be her choice.

I have seen some pretty interesting knee braces that are more for stabilization. Wonder if something like that plus knee pads would be the way?

I know it’s a tough decision. If the bulk around the knee wasn’t so bothersome to me I would probably wear them.

Same thing with the neck brace. We’ve all seen what happened with those. Studies saying one thing, studies saying another, people with personal experiences on each side. I have a neck brace, but I don’t wear it anymore. I don’t have any for the kids. Maybe I should, idk.

I went with the EVS Hodges braces. Very similar from what I researched. I’m thoroughly enjoying them.

I've been wearing leatt x-frame knee braces for years. I don't disagree with the thought that with a hard enough impact the force has to go somewhere and it is possible to protect the knee at the cost of something else, but knees are a lot more fragile and easy to damage than a femur or something. Harder to fix, too. People tend to think that every crash is a 100mph yard sale or casing an 80' supercross jump, but I know more than a few guys that have had a low speed fall over or misplaced dab that put a minor twist or sideways force on their knee and it's fucked them up for years. I do mostly slow, technical stuff, so the reward is worth the risk for me
