What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

Yeah, I don't have any reference from before my recharge unfortunately. My original condenser had a leak and the system was empty, so I was able to take my evap coil out to clean it.

 

Not trying to lecture, but it would be safer for Dale in the backseat. Less chance of him going through your windshield. I had a friend lose her cat that way.

I measured 40 a few years ago but not sure how accurate this method is. This was right after I cleaned off the condenser. It improved by 10 degrees after I cleaned it. This reminds me I'm probably due for another rinse.

I temp'd mine after doing the last coil cleaning. Wish I'd taken 'before' measures but I clocked in at 38. My garage is also 60% subterranean and fully shaded.

 

Did you put in new O-rings and were they from Toyota? I’ve been thinking about getting mine replaced since they appear to slowly leak from the dye test.

Wow, yeah mine gets nowhere near 40--and it hasn't been hot yet where I am. I did foam clean my condenser too but haven't sprayed/hosed it down. It only improve a couple degrees or so if any after I cleaned everything. Curious to see my results after a recharge

 

My uncle installed aftermarket A/C in his 1971 C10 pickup in Las Vegas and in the middle of summer it would kick out 36°. I'd have your levels checked if you're sure everything is clear. Go to an actual auto A/C specialist to have it checked.

Anyways, I get it. I used to let our dogs ride in my backseat some. They would prefer to be up front but I realized it was safer for them and me if they were not distracting me up front. I had an ex GF that got pulled over for having her dog in her seat with her. Can't remember if she got a ticket or not. Some people won't even let their dogs in their vehicles unless they are in a kennel but I never did that.

“I've been curious how much resistance there is with fresh wheel bearings when spinning the hubs? Do they spin easily a half dozen times like a bike wheel or are they still relatively stiff and maybe spin once or twice all the way around?

 

I honestly have no idea. I imagine it’s not like a bike. If you’ve spun a wheel while jacking the truck up it’s like that, but not grimy. Just smooth. Not OEM went with koyo bearings.

 

Sunday....pulled the short trailer and mowed 5 yards. We'd already done 2 yards using my dad's (formerly my) GMC Canyon.

Rained out on the last two planned yards but 7 yards mowed is pretty good for us.

The transmission oil pan was weeping all over but not dripping but I changed it today. Looks like it was done in the past with an aftermarket gasket, I used the toyota form-in-place stuff.

Took a bit but I found good resources here as usual and it went with out issue. I found a small spot where whoever worked on it before was prying and made a burr on the transmission. I filed it off hopefully it won't be a problem.

Also replaced the sway arm links but I still have a click sometimes I suspect the inner-tie rods which is fine since I have a new steering rack waiting to be installed.

 

Good question. I can lft the truck tomorrow to get you a better idea.

My worn bearing would spin freely, I also had no play at 12, 3, 6, and 9 o'clock positions. I heard my bearing most when going to a complete stop and turning. I've only put about 20 miles since install. I can only hear tires now

 

I believe they were the OEM manufacturer Toyota used

I have what I think is an aftermarket hub and spindle on one side and there is quite a bit of resistance (especially compared to the other side) when trying to spin it. I also have two knuckle and hub assemblies off a wreck and I’ve been wondering if they’re still in good condition or if I should rebuild them before mounting them. I’m a bit jealous of the fresh assemblies. I might have to do the same.

 

That's what I need, haven't been able to find specific AC specialist around here though, all shops are just general auto shops. I'll looking a little deeper or just go with a reputable shop

 

How many miles are on the wrecked units? Replacing the spindles ain't that bad of a job. 1st gen bearing are a pain to replace compared to other Toyota models. I saved myself the headache. Plus a couple of stories people not getting the bearing to seat properly. FR33LANCEFAB is highly recommend. My only regret is not doing it sooner.

 

Upgraded the battery from 24F to 27F and installed a new battery tray from Toyota - Part No.: 74431-0C020

 

Can check the rear retainer is positioned to mate with the oil seal by popping out the ABS sensor and seeing that tone ring is dry after a while.

 

Or rent for free a set of guages from the LAPs and give it a check. Sounds like if it has a temp drop there is some freon but may be low if only a 20 degree delta between ambient and AC.

 

My worn out front wheel bearings also felt smooth on the truck, but notchy and not smooth once the tire and CV axle where disconnected from it

Koyo is OEM, I used them when replacing mine

It is quite the process to press them in and out. But if this monkey can do it....

 

Whatcha gonna do with the OEM spindles that could be used as part of a future 4WD conversion? Asking for a friend.

 

Firm believer in replacing things while they’re out. I normally wouldn’t replace the spindle but it might have been bent from shenanigans lol.

Not today, but over the last month or so I replaced front and rear suspension components: Dobs IMS Coilovers and rear shocks, Suspension Maxx front links and an Archive Garage Shackleton MD leaf pack. RRW RR7-S wheels (0 offset, -25) w Falken Wildpeak 275-70-17 rubber.

Those front wheels look like they're poking overly hard. 17x8.5 and -25 == 3.77" backspace is wild*. Any reason you went with that choice?

Cap might seal and look better if you pop off the plastic rail covers and replace with double-bubble seal.

Nah to each there own but I like his new wheels and tires with the upgraded suspension.
