Discount Tire Broke my ABS Module?

    Hello,

I am at my wits end right now with this weird issue, and can't find any help online.

I have a 2108 1794 Edition Tundra, and took it this weekend to get 2 new tires and an alignment. When I got it back, there were ABS lights and traction control lights on the dash, as well as a warning about the trailer brake system malfunctioning. The speedometer also does not work at all, says 0, and the gas gauge fluctuates up to a quarter tank difference while I'm braking or accelerating.

Discount Tire sent me to a mechanic who told me to go to the dealer. Discount Tire said they will not cover a dealer visit, becuase I have a custom remote start system (that I have had on for years) and that is why it broke and they aren't responsible.

The code it's reading is C1228. Looking this up, it says "error in matching of ECUs"

My buddy is a mechanic and said it means that I need a new ABS module, and that I cannot purchase one used because they are VIN locked and I need to get one from the dealer, which will be thousands of dollars.

How could discount tire have fried my ABS?

What is going on?? What further steps can I take to diagnose the specific error?

    Thanks

I think is just pure coincidence. All discount tires does is starts and stops the truck, never open the engine hood or damages shit under the truck. Very unlikely

But discount tires does not do alignments, so perhaps they took it somewhere else? Then you may have a more complex situation in your hand.

My main question is whether or not I can replace the ABS module myself with a used module, or if it really is VIN locked and I need to buy a new part from the dealer.
