Did yall know grocery stores use facial recognition and change prices on items based on that plus sell your data?

Random rabbit hole I went down today and this post made me think about it.

No tin hat needed. Just Google - Kroger + facial recognition

It’s the dealerships handiwork. They just preemptively install them I guess as soon as trucks hit the lot.

You’ll need one of these to remove properly.

Drink more - computer less. I’ll guarantee that isn’t happening. They charge prices posted. Don’t know why facial recognition….

I did go thru one of those stores that you check in when you enter, take what you want and walk out. It was in an airport, don’t remember which one. They charge you accordingly. No check out. Creepy. Frightening.

Based on the outcry I'd deny it also. I read somewhere that they make 1/3rd of their revenue selling customer data. Here is an article speaking to some of those practices https://www.foodandwine.com/kroger-...ogram-consumer-reports-investigation-11738718

They seem shady, and this scenario, true or not is very real now with AI. There are very smart people forging ahead in AI as fast as possible with no guard rails, and their are legit concerns about the fate of humanity shared in the business world because of it. The MAG 7 (not so MAG this year) are pouring the equivalent of entire countires gdp into advancing this tech as fast as possible so they dont go the way of the dodo bird. Evolve or die.... This is CNBC reporting the moral vs. business dilema of it all, not some dude on YouTube with 5 views from Mom's basement.

The world in 10 years will be a very very different place. Whether we "normies" realize it or not.

I'm no genius, but I'm not unintelligent either. It's scary enough to make billionaires on CNBC question if we aren't going to far too fast. Just look at this NY Post headline less than 2 weeks old :
OpenAI co-founder wanted to build doomsday bunker to protect company scientists from ‘rapture'.

We are disengaged from those pulling the levers. Look at our politics. We get the Democracy we deserve - Ben Franklin ( speaking about our high debt and nothing currently political in nature).

We have become complacent. Comfortably numb.

And that's the end of my bourbon inspired thoughts.

I hate these kinds of aftermarket alarms. I always recommend removing them when I see them on fresh used cars at the shop. They damage the interior panels and when they fail (which is often) they cause loads of problems. Luckily they're super easy to remove. A bunch of wire taps, a ground and typically 1-2 wires they hardwire into
