Is there a box store glove box bulb that works?

I took my burnt out bulb to O'Reilly. They pulled up my vehicle and told me I needed a 37. It looked right, but when I tried to install it, it didn't fit. It would just fall out. I got a bulb from Toyota that also looks right, it fits, but it doesn't light up. I'm getting power, about 8 volts, to the glove box socket, with the key on.

I also tried an LED, but it doesn't light up either.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Since an LED is polarity conscious, did you try turning the LED bulb the other way ?
8 volts is more than enough for an LED but wondering why you don’t see 12vdc unless doors are open and battery is slightly discharging. 8 vdc on an incandescent would be fairly dim also.

    My Friend,

I believe I should just call it a day...

Given your post above, I went out and started her up then checked the voltage. 25.6. That can't be right, so I reversed the probes, and I got -25.6. I have a pretty simple meter. I don't believe I'm doing it wrong.

The glove box lightbulb only works when your headlights are on and it always stays on if your lights are on.

and it never turns off, even when you close the glove box if your headlights are on

    if I remember correctly
