As a lifelong 'car guy,' I thought I was cured. Alas, I've regressed and purchased a Tundra in need of some love. I've owned a couple Mercedes, an old '67 Nova Wagon, and a few Subaru Outbacks over the years.

The new acquisition is a 2000 4.7l Access Cab with 240k on the odometer. I don't have a lot of info on how well it was maintained, but the carfax seems pretty complete, and I see evidence of a new steering rack, and a few other bits that have been fixed along the way.

Overall pretty good condition. It drives really nice... for the most part.

It's shifting a little hard under aggressive acceleration. If I ease into it, it's super smooth. Hopefully it just needs a fluid change. It's also throwing a P0171 code, which I'm working through diagnosis. A/C is non-functioning, has a P1126 code and I believe it's a bad compressor. Haven't explored more on that subject yet as I live in the PNW, and hot weather isn't a problem yet.
I Found this community through some google searches and research. I've always loved this part of the internet! It's fun to meet like minded folks that are willing to share their wealth of knowledge! I thank you in advance for the advice and the guidance you have already posted.

I also ask forgiveness for the ridiculous questions I'm bound to ask!

Cheers to you all, and I look forward to learning and chatting it up!
    Mike

Welcome and at least now you have a project to keep you off the streets at night :). I have read the 4.7L V8 is a great engine, but it has a timing belt AND is an interference engine so see if you can find out when that was last done.

Wow, what a clean 2000! For the p0171 a common culprit is an air leak issue. Often it's an intake manifold or hose related issue. Or the mass air sensor itself. Testing with a smoke machine is the best and easiest way to diagnose for leaks. Carefully reading live data on a scanner can also help pinpoint mass air or even other sensor issues.

Some clean transmission fluid, good condition timing belt and tight lower ball joints are basically the three main things for a long and happy first gen ownership lol

Thanks for the tips y'all! Aisin timing belt 'kit' arrives today! I checked the timing belt yesterday and it looks ok. Still going to swap it out.
