My suspension set up for the street

    I rescued my rear wheel drive 2007 RCSB with a plan to improve it's handling performance on the street without reducing ground clearance, without reducing the scrub line, without using low profile tires and without making it ride rough.

    I lowered the bed 3.25" with the SOS performance rear only leveling kit, and it was the most significant modification. I also installed the Air-Lift kit, the TRD anti roll bar kit and the shorter Bilstein 4600 series shocks from SOS, plus a new custom set of Alcan leaf springs.

    I ended up replacing the relatively thin TRD anti roll bar with a much beefier Hellwig anti roll bar.

    Up front I have new OEM Toyota coils springs, Bilstein 4600 series shocks and a solid TRD anti roll bar... the height of the front suspension is stock.

    The tires stay planted on the street surface with this set up, and even if I leave the auto LSD on it almost never engages when I pull hard off the line or when I accelerate hard out of corners. Additional benefits: steering response is greatly improved, and it's easier to enter and exit the truck.

    I love it when a plan comes together.

    That is really nice. I have avoided the sway bar upgrades. My truck is more than half country farm truck and has
    a bit rougher existence. I'm still trying to track down the local 'dentless' repair guy.

    I get that, and I would be doing something different if this truck spent any time off pavement.

    A good PDR guy is worth his weight in gold, I'll have mine come over and go over this truck again this fall because my hood and roof took a few hits from large green pine-cones that fell from over 100 feet above during a Spring storm.

    I had my dealer align the front end this morning, it needed a slight camber adjustment to prevent the inside edge of the front tires from wearing quicker than the rest of the tire. You can see the wear starting in the picture above.

    Reducing unsprung weight enables peak suspension performance, the 18" Forged BBS PRO wheels with 225-70R18 Michelins I am using are noticeably lighter than OEM steel wheels with the same tires. Lighter rotors and calipers would also be a great upgrade, but I can't justify their cost.
