The ford 7.3 gasser was definitely one of the ones I was looking at

What’s up with the GM valve body?

The Ram 3500 has MDS now too or still just the 2500?

I had a 2023 Tundra with a 4-figure payment (was trying to pay it off in 4 years), well 2 years of not going on vacations or trips I decided to go to a 2021 and saved $18k and the payment is now 1/3rd of what the 2023 was. I loved the 23 but it's not worth the premium I paid for it, not to me anyway.

So the Ford and GM transmissions are almost the same. Ford has the better version that can handle more torque. 10R140 (1400 tq) vs 10L1000 (1000 tq). GM did the bare minimum. However, something is going on with the valve bodies when going down the freeway that makes the transmission shift to 4th gear. Not good when going 75 mph in tenth gear. Plenty of aftermarket valve bodies you can buy to fix the problem. 1600 at the minimum.

If it has a 6.4 gas motor it does.

It would be a tough call for me. We need a diesel right now. I can keep my current diesel which has a lot of life left or:

    No diesel
-GM replace VB and be done with it. Swap over my king shocks.
-Buy Ford 7.3L and if it doesn't have enough ass...supercharge it for less than a diesel option.

    Diesel

Probably buy Ford. Buy the CP4 bypass kit for 400.00 and just run it.

GM has EGR Cooler leaks that can wad up your motor and still have to do the valve body.

Yea I have no use for a diesel since it won’t be used properly with all the emission stuff. But that’s why I was leaning more towards a gas HD for what I would use it for when and if I get my trailer one day.

That would be an easy choice for me then. Ford F-350 (not the tremor) in Lariat plus trim, FX4 package (rear locker), blackout package, 7.3L with a 5Star tune. The skip shift on the transmissions would drive me nuts.

I gotta go look at them and sit in one and just drive it some to see how I like it. I used to drive ford diesels on a ranch I worked for many years ago in south texas so I have some experience in the older models.

I was in a 2024 F250 Tremor 7.3L today. Great fit and finish. The ride on the Tremor package is a bit rough and too tall for getting in and out several times a day.

Sweet! Are you happy they are bringing the Hemi back for '26 models? I was excited to see the updates.

I heard mine did. I did find this for disabling it temporarily (https://blog.1aauto.com/what-is-mds-how-do-i-disable-it-on-my-hemi-engine/) but I also find that if I get a tuner, they can permenantly turn it off. I may look at that.

Would a tuner be that little machine that plugs into the ECU or is there something else I am missing?

@SoTexTundra I do drive the 6.4L Ram. I have had it for six months and so far it has been good. Depending on what you are needing the HD for, it is, to me, really good.

    That is a temporary fix.

To do it properly you have to pull out the MDS lifters, delete the solenoids, and change out the high volume oil pump to a regular one. That is expensive, but so is rebuilding a motor after the camshaft is ground down from these faulty lifters.

That is the deletion I hear about?

I know my local mechanic said it is about $2500 for it. I have extended warranty so if it goes bad, it should be covered because I got the highest plan possible. Platinum level.

I wouldn't do anything until that warranty is about to expire. No reason to spend that money and waste the warranty money.

You can, but the warranty company will not cover that.

With the heads off you could look at a difference cam...

I spent the last 3 days on my 95.5 Tacoma (actually, I gave it to my son but have been helping him a lot).

I spent the day Tuesday at the machine shop helping my friend who in turn helped me replace the upper ball joints and wheel bearings. I even got a free lunch, lol.

Yesterday, I degreased and cleaned everything on both sides followed by the pressure washer.

Today was seeing the fruits all come together. New Moog uppers and lowers, Koyo bearings. Monroe quick struts and a complete Power Stop Z32 front brake kit. All after using a rust conversion (wasn't horrible, but surface stuff here and there) to paint and 2 coats of satin black, things began going back together. Here is what it looks like now. This is not an off roading build, but bringing a piece of history back to a respectable point, a March of 1995 build V6/5spd combo.

Here is what it looks like in the driveway at the end of today, thanks for looking
    Mike
