Sweet. Bypassed the long line, and the manager had me go to her window (no, she’s not hot. Not even remotely).

    I get that sometimes.
An ER visit or doctor's visit will say I owe $****, and I tell them to wait until the insurance pays and send me a bill.
Sometimes I owe, usually I don't, especially since I met my out-of-pocket in March.

You know it's going to take more than a week to get a bill.
Have you seen the insurance EOB from that visit?
It should tell you what and how much you owe, if anything.

    EDIT:
I just noticed you stated a COLLECTION AGENCY...:eek2:

Sure, it wasn't a past visit?
I'd guess the office would have told you had a balance due last week..

I love my shoulder doctor, but he outsources billing and I've gone round and round with them a few times in the last year..:(

Yeah, I have no faith I'm getting out of this situation without more than 20 hours of work and/or sitting on hold waiting on someone to finish their game of candy crush before talking to me.

Same thing I mentioned about a week ago. I received a letter from a collection agency for a $5 bill from Sonora Quest. When I called Quest, they said I actually had a $20 credit.

I don't know how these collection agents are compensated, but I do know they haven't been sued or prosecuted nearly enough.

They either get a percentage commission, or they 'buy' debts that companies charge off.

    Only 4 minutes..
    https://youtu.be/hAl4owvk43k?si=cJGYa9ocF3M8lNDr

I've heard on Dave Ramsey that for some debts, one can usually deal with collectors and say, "I can give you this $$$ amount now, or give you nothing," and the collector will take the offer.
    Better something than nothing..

I have this long running theory about medical billing. In the last 15 years the huge increases are because insurance companies were not paying out. So now, these hospitals, doctors etc over inflate the billing to get "what they need". The insurance companies pay a percentage And then pass the rest on to us. They don't actually need the rest of it which we are billed for, but lots of people just pay it because they figure they have to. There is a game that can be played with negotiating large medical bills and if you put some time into it you can get out of most of it. I'm not going to give advice here, but have you ever just not paid a large medical bill? What happens? It goes to collections and they bug you relentlessly for several months and then one day it just stops. So? Medical debt collections cannot be used on a credit report. Things to think about. And I'm definitely not advocating for doing this, but there's definitely ways to play the game.

Couple of things here - - Medical debt can absolutely go on your credit report. Also, any forgiven debt is considered taxable income by the IRS. Plus, not to be accusatory at all, but I will give advice; don't be a deadbeat.

Yes collection agencies are predatory and probably criminal. But owing a debt is owing a debt.

Maybe it's a California thing about the medical debt.

I understand where you're coming from with not being a deadbeat. I totally get it, but it doesn't apply when these companies are charging $500 for an ibuprofen. Get an itemized bill and you will be appalled at what they are charging. When I had to have surgery for my torn ankle ligaments, I went to the surgery dept, got checked in, put on the gown and they started an IV. Then the surgeon came in to talk to me and he saw how swollen I still was from the injury. He cancelled my surgery and sent me home. Insurance was billed $18,000 for that. That is absolutely criminal.

My main beef is what the Specialty Pharmacies, in cahoots with Big Pharma, were billing my work health insurance. SCAM! When I first started taking Aberaterone Acetate for my cancer, the monthly cost was $9000. Yes, $9000. Was on it two years. Do the math. Took me off for a year. PSA started to suddenly climb. Put me back on it. By then my company had switched health care insurance. Different Specialty Pharmacy. Aberaterone Acetate dropped to $7600 per month. I retired on 1/31 and went on Medicare. I was stressing how I would pay for it. UC Health Oncology forwarded my pre-scrip to Mark Cuban Cost Plus Pharmacy. Yes, that Mark Cuban. They don't take Medicare. I have to pay out of pocket. My monthly cost is $79!!!! Big Pharma is screwing us over. Driving up health insurance here. That is going to change Yugely.

Aberaterone Acetate is Zytiga. Generic available now. I looked at my med bottle. Made in India. Same freakin formulary. The same. Get my drift? We have been getting SCREWED by Big Pharma here in the US and driving up health insurance costs. Colorado now forces health care providers to publish their their pricing for certain procedures.

I'm on a roll like butter. US Big Pharma says they have to cover R&D costs. That's why we, as in USA, have to eat that bison crap. F that BS. Why can't Canada and the EU help absorb the research costs? Why do they get a pass? They're 1st world entities. Maybe not it seems.

It's Yelp, and regional sampling. Large poll though. The Habit is freakin great. Neil, what are the best fast food burgers up your way? There's always better local burgers of course, but decent fast burgers? Horton's?

Best to just donate it to one of us at this point. No insurance or dealership hassles. Who needs that, right?

I would have thought our OFFA would know that?

They know exactly what's going on and are probably monitoring the trends here.... I'm guessing they are not allowed to market (advertise) or try to elicit business here though.

If you are prior military, you can get a military discount through RAS also... I'd anticipate there will be a memorial day sale through them!
