I would have definitely gone this route, I think it looks MUCH cleaner. Unfortunately, the dealer drilled a hole (brand new truck mind you) where I have it installed. This is what was previously there:

I saved probably 2 grand in labor by being willing to trust my very average wrenching skills.
With the help of YouTube... New pads, rotors, transfer case fluid replacement, a minor fix to the rear passenger window bracket were all very reasonable jobs to take on provided you have basic tools.

S&B intake, Dirty Deeds 8", Airlift airbags with Daystar contact cups, LED's everywhere including Diode Dynamics stealth front LED bar, Baja Design Squadron II's on CBI ditch light brackets, completed Diode Dynamics interior LED's. Full RCI skids with cat guards and sliders, Transfer flow 46 gallon tank. Radflo 2.5 IFP coilovers, Coachbuilder shackles, TRD rear sway bar. 295/70R18 Nitto RG's. Dobinson snorkel, softopper.
Man the 2 door XJ's are getting tough to find these days...

I have no concrete evidence in my truck that it keeps the filter cleaner, but that's the reasoning I use for having it. I cleaned the S&B filter for the first time when I had the snorkel installed which meant it had been installed and uncleaned for 5 years. I do run S&B's pre filter wrap as well, I've cleaned that about once a year, which hasn't changed since installing the snorkel two years ago. For time basis, I bought the truck in July 2018, the S&B was the first thing I installed in August 2018, and the snorkel was installed August of 2023.

Checked all the bolts. Checked upper control arm and the 2 lower bolts (221ftlbs) all where they should be. Lower control arm and tie-rod look good. Cotter pin has no signs of moving. I didn’t have extra so I didn’t really want to take them out. The back and forth clunk noise is the steering column. So the whole thing is moving. The tie rod does have a bit of grease leak. So not sure if this is serious issue I should address, or just keep an eye on it? No noise while driving and turning. Thanks @BR73 and whoever else told me to check the bolts. I can’t find your reply.

Travis is solid and his work is phenomenal. Got to check his build out last year and am dumbfounded by how well thought out it all was.

I haven’t really been on lately but I finally hit the first milestone. Not a single repair and only maintenance has been done. As expected from this truck though

Added the loncky steering wheel cover and my favorite phone holder from Proclip

steering wheel cover is fantastic and makes the wheel so much better to use - something so important because I use it every time I drive the truck!

Is the steering wheel cover one that has to be sewn and if so how was that process?

Yes sewn, and no, Not terrible. There is a thread somewhere with more details and methods. For the most part i followed the printout from the manufacturer. It’s just a point of lining it up as best you can, then threading the needle through the sewn in loops on the cover. Tedious if you aren’t patient, but I found it fun and a little bit of “sweat equity”. The payoff if totally worth it!

Did you use any of the 2-sided tape? I bought one but still haven't installed it yet

Not all. Just like 20 1-2 inch strips positioned throughout

pay particular attention to where your thumbs go when driving and have tape there for sure. There’s this recess area on the wheel that needs tape at like 3 and 9 position

also it helps to take off the two trim pieces and the airbag. Made the install way easier

Yes. Works great. Now I have the same trim package as a rav4.

Only downside is it doesn’t have a safety stop built in so presumably it will crush little fingers. I did not test so I have no skin in that fight.

Wonder how we made it all these years without the anti-pinch on power windows? I installed the master up / down and leave the override on so I have completed control of the window operation....lol

I don’t have little ones anymore. My youngest sits shotgun most the time unless momma is on board. I didn’t install the rears because I’m never back there. I think it will work just fine.

Nothing yet except for some LED interior & exterior bulbs.
They're some sort of Toyota ones. I almost pulled them off yesterday but decided to get a few things done on the boat before it goes in the water since it's going to be raining the next few days. I can get you a better picture if you want.

Originally had some BD XL’s mounted to SDHQ brackets thought they were a little to big up on the hood. Replaced with S2’s and had the XLs sitting around, so I decided to do some surgery and whip up a quick bracket. Used a hand hack saw to trim away the blocks in the grill. I can’t say that I’ve seen this done before but I think it turned out pretty slick. Also did a little chop chop on the BM in prep for 37’s and Methods going on Friday. Don't mind the welds.....o_O
