What’s the upside of waiting a year for them? I know of 2 members here that had to ship their blowers back for repair after like a year.

 

It's a friend that ordered it and specifically wanted the Whipple. Now that we know he's going to be upgraded to the new/larger model at no charge... He's waiting.

Question for the group. So I installed the RCF throttle body on Sunday with the prospeed adapter. Started the truck and it idled fine and sounded normal. Today was the first drive after it was installed. I am getting a whistling sound that starts around 2k rpms, but seems to go away under or above that mark. I highly doubt there is a gap or anything where the air tube connects to the airbox or throttle body based on how tight it was to get on. Does anyone else have this? Maybe it’s just from sucking more air in through the aem filter producing the whistle and nothing to worry about or cause for concern. I did have a similar whistle before this, but only when the engine was cold and you were giving it very light throttle when taking off, once the engine was warmed it went away. The prior whistle was more subtle. Is there anything I should be concerned about here or am I just worrying about nothing? Guess I could try swapping filters and see if that changes anything.

 

The whistle sound is more due to the TRD accelerator and SABM in the airbox...I too have it...almost like a turbo whistle under 3k RPMs...totally normal; you're just breathing so much easier now.

It's normal, like @HulkSmurf14 said, as you increase the air that gets in, you also increase the noise. My wife's Sequoia does it with the TRD intake and airflow accelerator.

 

Thanks for the confirmation. I did the accelerator, but have not installed the SABM yet. Sounds like that may amplify it a bit more. Good to know. I feel like I know every inch of the truck and the sounds it makes so anytime something changes I start to wonder.

 

What you’re hearing is the manufacturing of raw Japanese-American horsepowers.

 

There's a LOT that goes into the aerodynamics of the intake system. The throttle body I've been developing has a very nasty (to me) whistle which is high on the priority list to sort out. Flip side is, different intake configurations (even as simple as how far is the intake tube from the throttle body inside of the rubber coupler) can completely change the noise. OEMs spend a lot of effort to eliminate intake noise which is why you often see weird things like boxes that plug into the intake or odd features---and which explains why an aftermarket intake can make the sound of the truck drastically different.

Good chance you could change a number of components and it would eliminate or change the noise.

I didn't notice a whistle when I had it on. Could be the configuration I have as you said.
Side note: throttle body blades arrive this afternoon. Will go over them this evening.

That's good to know, mine was insanely loud, then took my single tube with long couplers and welded a new tube with some angle to it and shorter couplers and it cut the whistle down 50% but still noticeable.

 

Stopped by DynoComp on my way home from work today. They got me down for a tune revision on June 4th. Just want to ensure no tweaks are needed. Curious to see what improvements there are with the throttle body. I’ll keep you all posted after the session.

 

I assume the stock steel mesh throttle body gasket isn't used with the SC? I thought I read that can contribute to throttle whistling.

 

Most just get rid of it.

 

I dont mind the whistle back when it was just an add on air filter. Dont have none since SC install

 

I may pull the TRD accelerator and put the oem piece back on just to see if that is the cause of the whistle. After driving it two days now it doesn't bother me. It was just more of an initial concern because the noise wasn't there before and I listen for anything unusual or different any time I mess with something just as a precaution. Others have said they don't have a whistle from the RCF throttle body, so I'm betting the TRD accelerator is the culprit. If nothing else it will be noted here for others that may have an identical setup or question in the future. If it is the TRD accelerator it will go back on. I'm just more curious than anything at this point.

I remember a while back someone posting here about heatshield on the underbelly?? of the supercharger. Did it bring about any big benefits?

Also anyone here install the AES 3UR runner kits along with their s/c?

Yes, I have both the thermal shield and AES runner kit. The thermal shield/runner combo reduced my IAT delta by 8 degrees idling and 12 degrees when moving. The runners have a slight interference with my blower base, but nothing a little belt sanding can't fix.

 

thanks ya'll, guess I'll order me some thermal shield tape to have it here once my blower comes back from magnuson. any recommended brands?

unsure if I want to fork over the cash for the runners right now though, the billet ones look nice but not sure what benefit they'd provide over the delrin
