Alpine ilxw670 : Carplay cutting in and out during phone calls

The (wired) Carplay keeps cutting in and out when I'm taking a call. It will happen 5 or 6 times in a short call under 5 minutes. I am using a cord I bought form the Apple website USB A --> USB C.

I've gone down the Reddit rabbit hole. I turn off my BT when I plug in my iphone 15 Pro. iOS is up to date. It sounds like it might be an Apple problem that they say they are working on, but it's super frustrating.

Any tips or threads I missed when searching?
