IMG_4831.jpg IMG_4831.jpg IMG_4806.jpg IMG_4810.jpg IMG_4819.jpg A Simi trailer had slightly sideswiped my mirror and damaged the paint and is gashed. Drove up to him and he said he didn’t hit me and to prove it. He just drove off and didn’t want to pull over. Called PD and they didn’t do much couldn’t even get a report. Sh*ty people that don’t take accountability sucks.

Anyway I was wondering if anyone knows if this is an easy part to replace a snap on piece that I can order painted and install myself or am I looking at a whole mirror. I want it to look new since it’s a new truck I don’t want it sanded and painted I want a new piece. Debating going through insurance if I can do it myself and it’s not expensive. I also have PPF on my truck so that’s what the plastic peel is in the pic.
    Thank you guys.

My best advice is to get a good Dash cam. You pay a little money now but it works great in times like these. Mine saved me three times already.

Is it the top part that’s damaged? If so it’s just snap on plastic that Toyota sells color matched

Most states allow you to file your own accident report, I'd go to the police department that it happened in and request that a report be taken. If they refuse to, get that officers name and request a civillian accident report form, fill it out and send it in. Go to Toyota and get a written quote to have the mirror replaced with labor. Call the trucking company and speak with them, tell them you filed a report for hit and run and have pics. Tell them all you want is for the damages to be paid so you can fix your truck. Send them the pics, copy of the report and quote for repair and request they send you their insurance information in the event they won't pay directly. Tell them they have 2 weeks to make it right before you call their insurance. You can also call your insurance company if you get no positive results from the trucking company. They should then fight with the other insurance company for coverage. I probably wouldn't do that unless your truck was parked when it happened, then it should be covered under comprehensive. If you were driving it then it's not worth it, the amount of damage isn't worth having the mark on your coverage. I'd start researching Amazon regarding accident involving their vehicles, even though it may have only been their trailer it may be covered under their insurance or can at least help resolve the issue. Good luck.

The biggest thing that you need to determine is if you have the surround view camera. If you do, then replacement is not so straightforward as you will need to recalibrate this system after installation of the new mirror.

If you don't then you can just replace this as a DIY deal. Buy the new mirror assembly. Keep in mind that sometimes the covers come separately and that they also may not come pre-painted. Some do, some don't. You will only know by calling the parts department to find out. You can take off your trim panel to gain access to the mirror bolts. Swap and save.

I just put a Momento front/rear/interior cam in my daughter's car. Worth every penny.

PPF wouldn't have done anything to prevent that gouge, damage would have still happened.

They would since he's pulling their trailer and hauling their goods.
