I just bought a 2009 RCSB trd offroad 5.7 tundra that had been sitting a while with 170 000km(Canadian model). The rear end has a constant howl all the time(not super loud, can not really here it with the radio on),but is better at high speeds and worse when coasting to a stop.

I thought it might have been the tires as they were old and cracking.Had new tires installed and it is still noisy, though not as bad.I changed the rear diff oil and it had some water in it as it was brownish, but was still thick and sticky with no metal shavings.

I put it on jack stands to run it and see if I could hear anything but the LSD keeps engaging and then all the nanny lights go off an light up the dash.I had all the nannies switched off but it still won't run freely. Can I take out the ABS and traction control fuses to get it to run up to speed?Or is there something else I'm missing?

    Thanks

From what I've read, I would look at the abs sensors and make sure there not damaged. Check the wires and pull the sensors out of their housing to check for water damage. Could be the cause of the dash lights.

As far as the howl, could be alignment/damage of the gears and or aftermarket ones possibly installed??

Grease your your driveline just to rule out other unknowns. (Should be 4 zerks iirc).

"LSD" is just Toyota's traction control as there is no real LSD in the rear end.

If you want to run her up on stands, you have to disable EVERYTHING. Have to hold button one time and when that turns off some sensors, you jave to hold it a second time to disable traction, stability and something else I can't remember. Hold procedure must be done twice to turn everyrhing off.

If you try going in reverse, don't do that, it'll enable all sensors back on and trip them off. I think you have to do disabling again if you switch direction or go into park again.
