A/T overheat engine warning light after washing 2012 tundra truck and engine turns off. What to do?

A /T overheat check engine light comes on and engine stops. This started after washing the truck. What to do to get truck to run? Help please.

 

Like, washing inside the engine bay?

 

No, just washed outside, sprayed wheel wells and undercarriage with garden hose

 

Any CELs - read even if not lit - may have a pending code for a clue as to what shorted out. Of course - its not really overheating - correct?

 

I think it’s just the warning light and then it turns engine off. Only runs for 10-15 seconds before shutting down. Hard to believe it actually overheated that quickly

 

Then its a temp sensor that shorted - might dry out and work again or not

 

Took it to Toyota shop. They said it was a fault in the fuel pump ecu which caused numerous faults which is why the a/t oil temp overheating warning light was activated and that nothing was wrong with the transmission or it’s oil temp sensor. They charged $435 for the part. It works fine now. I have a couple follow up questions for the forum here.
1. Where is the fuel pump ecu physically located?
2. Is it possible to get it wet and cause it to short out when washing dirt off the wheel wheels and undercarriage with a garden hose?
3. Or was it unrelated that the problem occurred after I washed the truck?
4. Can I never wash the truck again?

Got a part num? When I look it up on a toyo parts list I don't find "fuel pump ECU" or any variation of it. Anybody else find it?

 

Toyota 89571-34070 Computer, fuel pump control.

 

I found diagram and location on autoparts.Toyota.com. It’s located by the rear wheel on the inside of the frame . Past the gas filler port. Its full name is Fuel Pump Control Computer. Another article said it’s more likely the wiring got corroded over time from road salt, etc. That didn’t seem to be my problem as it wasn’t replaced by the shop. I’m still wondering if water from washing the underside of wheel wells and frame cause the old part to short out. I hope it doesn’t happen again as it was $680 total repair bill.

 

Just curious if changing the fuel pump control module stopped your car from stalling or if it came back.

I've just had a similar issue, while I'm driving the AT temp light comes on and the car shuts off. It's not throwing any codes and if I wait a few minutes to start the car it'll go again, but it shuts off again. I also washed the undercarriage about two weeks ago.

everything I've read says that the fuel pump control module should not trigger the AT Temp light.

 

Fuel pump control module is basically a pulse-width modulation amplifier: it receives a low current PWM signal from engine ECU and sends the same signal to fuel pump, now with more current. Dead FPCM can't trigger random codes. However. When frustrated owner cranks engine over and over again, he quickly drains the battery, voltage drops, all kinds of weird glitches start to happen in underpowered electronic modules.

 

Did you check both trans fluid and engine coolant temps and fill levels yet? Start there
