WHy did YOU crawl unde your truck with a cutting torch and a needle scaler yesterday?

Driving home on Mother's Day, my truck took a little hop as I went around a 90 degree corner. Glanced in the side mirror at my missing wheel, did a quick check that it wasn't one of my primary tires and thanked goodness that the guy behind me hadn't been tailgating. Torched off the weldnuts, sanded/primed and installed a $55 AMZ hoist. Knocked off all the rust I could reach and FluidFilmed everything that was orange. FWIW, my frame appears to have received the Toyota coating job, and is in decent shape.

 

That was a tough read, but I think I've got it now. Your spare tire fell off due to a rusted retainer (pictured) and you replaced it. But you still believe the rest of your frame is fine. OK

I had to cut my spare lifting cable off with bolt cutters (thankfully before it fell out while driving, and also thankfully it didn't fall on my face after I cut the cable!). The I had to use a grinder to remove the rusty useless crank assembly, the treat the cross member with rust converter and rust encapsulator before installing a new unit. I have three vehicles with this design, so now I make a point of dropping the spare and greasing the cable and crank at least once a year.

The coating is great. The frame underneath the coating has been and is still rotting away to dust. You just can't see it, because the coating is great. Sorry about your luck....
