...and on your second point, unfortunately we've been living in a world where social media and other online 'behavior' can bring shame to the organization, lower public trust, or on the lower end of the spectrum cause 'concern' regarding the organziation's character. Also, many organizations have policies on online behavior (not only at work but outside of work as well) and therefore they have standing to screen candidates in this way prior to actually hiring them. Generally this occurs once a conditional job offer has been extended, but can start even prior to conditional offer.

Also, keep in mind, the choice is yours.... you're not required to have someone dig through your past and current behavioral self, but the organization also can choose to pursue a more transparent candidate

 

which brings up a really good point. That the regular social media has a diamond & 10 gems amongst a sea of dirt, but fb & tt are barren wastelands. Ig people cheat with their pictures, dunno. This place is rocking 50 diamonds, and thousands of gems. It aint me. In fact i rue the day some jerkoff recognizes & gets a pic of me cause theres only one truck like mine.

As far as employment, I would never want to work for a company that demands to look at my social media posts. They get control over every other aspect of my life it seems like. That is where I would probably draw the line. I don't really have anything to hide, it is just none of their damned business, and then where does it end and what will they demand next?

 

You and I could hang out. There's no way I'm letting my employer have that kind of power of me. Probably why I'm just an adventure junkie bum first, and money earner second.

I remember someone being upset that their employers asked for all social media passwords, so they can review everything. That was many years ago when Facebook was more popular.

I once had a potential employer run a credit check on me. Problem was, I had no credit history, so I never heard back from them.

I kind of see it this way... if entering a subject thread offers an opportunity to learn a skill, help narrow down an issue and the content is focused on the topic at hand and not wasting my time it makes the cut as a resource and not social media.
If the content is a complete waste of time, is chalked full of divisive bullshit and adds nothing to my life it gets the nod.
