Do forums count as social media?

So I’m not on facefuck, instaham, or dikcock, but I belong to a few vehicle forums. Does that mean I’m engaging in social media, my spidey sense says not really. So I pose the question? Hope everyone had a great Sunday and at least called your mom. Peace oot ✌️

 

no, i do not consider forums to be classified as social media.

 

It absolutely is, whether we like to admit it or not. We post pix, hit likes and talk about most weirdest stuff at times(pineapple pizza)

Forums are just 'old skool' social media, before Facebook, discord and reddits was a thing.

Now hit that like button! Thousand likes let's hit it, fam!

 

Yeah, it is. Much as I hate to admit it. Its a media. And it's social. And some forums (not this one) can get pretty toxic. Reddit would definitely be considered social media. Someone posts, others respond. That's pretty much all it is. Same format as here. Twitter or X or whatever is the same thing. This forum even has followers.

And I don't do any others. I did go on FaceSpace so I could use the Marketplace, but never posted, never followed, no friending, don't look at feeds. Just Marketplace for Tundra parts. But this is also definitely social media. Just luckily without most of the negativity

 

Yep, this forum does fit the definition of social media as described by Merriam-Webster and Wikipedia.

 

Technically yes, social media. But i like to think of it as a self help site.

 

I can understand the hate for TikTok but I can heartily recommend TikThots.

 

But stay away from ThikTots, total predator sting operation.

I consider forums to meet the definition of social media, it just predates the current dominant forms of social media.

 

Usenet newsgroups counted as social media and that was before the World Wide Web.

If you are seeking employment where a full, legitimate, and very thorough background check is going to be performed and you are asked to disclose your social media habits/accounts, and you fail to disclose forum activity such as Reddit, Quora, hobby forums (here, glock talk, etc...) you WILL be DQ'd...

I visit a motorcycle forum, but i’ll buy a motorcycle i dont need if i stick around over there. So i hang out with you nerds. Prolly kept me out of thousands of dollars of shenanigans. I’ve dipped into other forums, and the ones with traffic have toxic basement dwellers, but luckily first gen titans & tundras are pretty cool ‘truck folk’.

 

Why would/should they need to know my dark secret dangerous side of me? Do they need my bank/cc account summary as well to see if I'm a risky spender?

I think a lie detector test with most vulnerable questions should be done and that's it. Social media should be off limits.

Unfortunately, it is definitely social media. If you ever get in trouble with the law, 'they' will be looking at your posts on all forums.

You read about that stuff all the time.

That's my litmus test for social media anyway.

 

Unfortunatley Big brother has entered the chat room quite a while ago. Even if we think they should be off limits, which I most defiantly do, certain types of employers want access. Easiest way to avoid this, is not working for entities that request one to divulge their social life status.
