Well, I appreciate everyone's suggestions. I'm getting a smartcap installed later this week and think I'll try out the bedrug. I use the bed space more like an SUV than anything so this may work best.

I have a canopy and use it like an suv, but also like a truck and the bedrug is phenomenal for both. I do dump runs with all sorts of stuff including leaking garbage bags, lumber, heavy tools, you name it, and the bedrug has been perfect. Only had to take it out and rinse it once when crab juice leaked on it. And then it works great for luggage and stuff too.

My mat came new with the truck, very quality and substantial product. Other trucks I’ve had would have plastic bed liner and lay Firestone roof mats in there to keep stuff from sliding around.
The factory Toyota one works pretty good.

    I hope you like it.
I use my bed like a 6' trunk as well.
The good thing is if you wanted to haul a load of dirt or gravel, the bedrug pulls out easily.
It is held in with heavy velcro.

Look into the tailgate mat as well.
I had the full connected rug and mat in my 2005, but I kind of like having the separate piece gap in my 2014.

I'm fairly confident you'll be more than impressed with your choice. It's indestructible in how many ways you can use it. I never take mine out even when collecting firewood in the fall. I just run my shop vac or broom out any left over debris.

Youll love the bed rug. Install is very easy, easier if you dont have the oem bed liner. I got the full kit with the bedsides and tailgate and working in the bed is a lot more comfortable now.

Has anyone used the WeatherTech impact liner? It’s a little pricey at $299.

looking to rock the no bed cover just want some extra protection over the plastic bed I don’t have the OEM spray on option

not sure it’s worth that price honestly.

Did the same but took them 3 tries. First two times it kept arriving damaged even just coming from the other side of my state..

Edit: they were the only option at the time for a 6.5ft bed mat. Short beds were available everywhere though.

I had to call them twice, once on a Saturday and then again on Thursday and found out it wasn’t ordered. Did show up 3 days later on Saturday. Not a lot of other options for a mat for a 6.5 bed. Love the fit and finish so it was worth the $140.

ha first one showed up in two days damaged. They said second one was already on order.

4 days later I called them up asking for an update. They said the just ordered the 3rd as the 2nd was also damaged. This time when they called up Prineville or la grande they told them not to fold it in half when throwing it in the semi… 3rd one was good to go!

    Lots of stuff!
    Weight is a consideration!

With the low payload of the Tundra, I went with a Bedrug XLT and saved the ~50 lbs hit to the payload.

Like others have said, it is great on the knees and nothing really slides around on it. It is a bit pricy but has a lot of good points.

I have one from Rouch Country and I love it. So glad I have it to help with the spray on bed liner. Check out my video here if you guys are on the market. Only $100 (at the time I purchased it).

You can always put air bags on it to cover the weight difference.

Nope. Airbags have nothing to do with payload. Airbags are for leveling.

Adding parts to your truck decreases your payload. You can't add airbags to increase it.

    I was being facetious.

He was worried about 50# in the bed of his truck. I should have said he should get the air bags to make sure it is level when he puts an extra 50# by using a heavier floor mat.

Couldn't tell. There are a lot of people that think they can haul more if they add air bags. It's been so common that it being a joke didn't even cross my mind.

Not to mention sarcasm is almost always lost in text.
Well played sir. You now have me convinced on another reason why the bedrug is far superior to any other bed mat available. And it's because you don't need to add airbags to compensate for your heavy ass bed mat.

    :anonymous:

I KNOW the Bedrugs are heavy duty and can hold up to doing "truck things" but am stuck on the notion of having a carpeted truck bed. Dumb, I know.
Price played a factor as well. For $100, the RC mat was tough to beat.

I do have a Bedrug tailgate mat though....partial credit?;)
Knowing what I know now, if I had to do it over again, I'd bite the bullet on price and get the full Bedrug.

You can find solace in the fact that President Bill Clinton used to have carpet in the back of his El Camino when he was younger. When asked why he had it, he would get an evil smile on his face and say "You know what that was used for!" (It was actually astro turf)

There are some decent videos on Bedrug's site and on YouTube on how tough the Bedrug is.

    Lots of stuff!
Not too worried but figured I would put that out there since payload is often over looked. I was carrying 400 lbs on the truck all the time plus the 2 lbs for the bedrug.

When I pulled my smallish trailer and some camping stuff, I used up all of the 1,390 lbs. that Toyota gave me.

Just saying, payload is at a premium.

I had to decide to bring my heavy rubber matt or my cooler of beverages on trips! ;)

Don't take me as ragging on Bedrug. I put it in my last Jeep JK. It was awesome. But it seems weird in a truck bed.

I know what you mean. I have a Decked drawer unit. So I basically have 250# always in my bed. Then you ad the Milwaukees and other tools. I bet I am around 350# in cargo every day. But I don't really go by the payload rating. My philosophy is that if it fits in the bed, it is okay.:D In my old truck (2019 SR5) I had the guys put 9 squares of shingles in the back and drove 150 miles. The shingles alone were 2115#.:eek2::D
