I know that there is a wide variety of aftermarket running boards that I could substitute in for the stock ones

however if it’s not broke, don’t trash it. Am I right

so I was thinking about trying to lower the stock running boards, just a couple inches and I was wondering if anyone has done that . heard of it done ,tried doing it or looked into it at all?
    Any all tips appreciated thanks

How about a small lightweight step stool with a string attached for easy up/down? Step tubes with an added second step are available too. I just can't see sacrificing ground clearance, so I would use a step stool if I had issues. All of that said, one can always fabricate new mounting brackets to lower steps, but you might end up with a less pleasing appearance. This could be overcome by modifying the back or inner portion of step to fill the gap. A flat strip of narrow material with marker lights mounted might work well and also be functional. All depends on budget and or creativity/skills. Good luck!

Hard to see, but I have amber marker lights mounted in the gap above my steps...
