Air con repair

So I accidentally burned a hole in my condenser by setting by welding stinger on bumper then turning on my machine. Let go all the refrigerant. So I got a new denso condenser and dryer with new green orings. Installed the stuff today. Hooked up the vacuum pump for 20minutes. I only get 22 inches of mercury, is that enough to to complete this job? How do I know how much oil do I add back to system? I’ve done most of this before, but with different gauges and pump. Also can I clean gauges out that may have used r-12? I hope to not have to get new equipment, but I’m in a holding pattern till I can sort these questions out. Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated, thanks

 

Not sure if I’m tracking… R12 gauge set should not be able to physically connect to an R134a system…. Nvm looks like older gauges marked for both refrigerant types. Been a long time since I’ve seen R12 lol

as far as the vacuum goes, sometimes the gauge it’s off. I’d draw it down and see if it holds vacuum for 30-45minutes.

this one may be worth paying a shop to recharge.

 

There are adapters to allow the connection to r134 ports. Holding vacuum for hours now, just not below 22 inches. I have multiple vehicles and one uses r12. It’s important for me to learn to master this skill, but you have a point. Thank you

 

The amount of oil and refrigerant the system holds should be described in the FSM

 

Won’t hurt anything using same gauges, make sure it holds vacuum and I would not think u should have to add oil

 

So I got burned on the used vacuum pump, it shit the bed. So im just going go to a local shop to get the system vacuum down and recharged

 

Ac back working. Local diesel shop vacuumed and recharged system for $35. Cold ac is essential. Thanks y’all
