General Supercharger Thread

my sensor is on the passenger side near the OEM sensor.

 

I think I noted Bank 2 is ideal. I'm being paranoid about a vacuum leak again.

 

Swapping snouts netted the same result, with supercharger knocking. This morning I took the head unit off and I can see where the rotors have been contacting each other, or the case, so I'm shipping it off to Harrop.

 

Damn! Well, you've done your due diligence on discovery...Harrop can't be mad about that...Keep us posted and fingers are crossed you get this sorted and re-installed with new ASAP!!

Maybe you sucked something in, I had that happen and the rotors became mistimed and the blower was insanely loud. Still spun pretty freely which I was surprised by.

 

Those look like some pretty minor scuffs in the coating to me. Like the person assembling it setting the rotors on a table before assembly kind of minor. Also, i have no idea what I’m talking about. I’m just saying lol. Did you send those pics to Harrop?

The old Sequoia motor apparently had a ton of oil blowing through piston 2, the clean one is 1.

 

Ugh! Nothing like "happy accidents" occurring at the times of "Noooooo!" Any thoughts on why this happened? Were you pushing the boost past "comfy" levels or was this a proof of concept attempt that makes good things happen after destruction?

 

Possible that something blew in while I was swapping snouts or throttle bodies, but you're right, the damage is minimal. Either way, going to have Harrop give it a good once-over.

I just emailed them the pictures. I don't recall seeing any chips on the rotors when I installed the spacers, so that's new. Man that knocking noise had me worried there would be more damage, I'm packing it up this afternoon to ship it to Harrop's Ohio location.

Any sense of what this means for support after the warranty period? Have no stake in it, but curious what that looks like.

 

Not that I have clout with Whipple, but I will be sure to ask them when they figure out what’s wrong with my current blower…

 

I still have a few gouges in my rotors from when I grenades my engine. Somehow had head/ring/piston material inside with oil. Still going...except for that bearing /coupler noise.... Definitely needs a rebuild.

 

Didn't yours suck in a Yugo while overtaking?

 

So, been thinking more about this issue. Why would you get a rhythmic knock sound about 1.5x per second from a device spinning 20x per second. It doesn’t make sense to me! The only thing with such a large circuit to run that would make noise at that frequency at idle RPM is the belt. It prompted me to ask AI this question, and what do you know, at 600rpm the same spot of the belt will contact the same spot in the belt circuit every 1.64 seconds. Did you try using a different SC pulley on either of your snouts and see if the sound went away?

 

I didn't try a different pulley, I've had the 77.5mm pulley and same belt size since I installed the spacers back in November. The head unit is on the way to Harrop, so we'll just wait and see what they say. Hoping they find a smoking gun. When I installed the spacers, I removed the head unit from the base to make removal/installation easier, the rotors had zero damage at that time. Even though it looks minimal, the rotor dings happened in the last 5 months or so.

 

Looking forward to hearing their assessment, it’s definitely an odd one. The frequency of the sound just seems too convenient with the belt to me. If it is a blower problem I wonder how they will charge you for repairs. Good to know they work on them in house anyway.

 

Got the piston to the bottom of the bore, outside the messy oil, I don't really see a culprit.

 

Does anyone need an '18 engine harness (bad driver side valve slenoid connectors) is all I am aware of & a 143k '13 exhaust air pump set up (never had any issues with it) before I throw them out?

Not looking for money, will send for actual shipping.
