Does anyone replace their alternator for time or miles? After 230k miles, was finally stranded.

That's a smart move. That's what my mechanic said he would do if he needed one. Go to a junkyard and yank one off an old 4Runner or something.

I think the core on my Denso 150A purchased recently was like $75. I contempated hitting a yard to grab a cheap one to send back and recoup some bucks but figured it'd be at least $40-60 and the $15-25 wasn't worth the effort and gas, honestly.

I had to borrow a friend's...I guess I'm not positive whether he had an actual charging system tester, or if it was a function on his code reader. I think it was an option on his code reader. I don't think my code reader does, and most I'm looking at now at best have a simple battery test function. I'm starting to think my friend actually had a pretty nice scanner and I didn't realize it, or he had some separate charging system tester. I swear it had a battery and alternator test function, but now I'm second-guessing myself.

Nice. The 85 is a unicorn for certain people. EFI, but the last year with the solid front axle. I've had a series of Toyota pickups...a 78 motorhome conversion, 83, 86, 87, 92, 94, 98 Tacoma and now my 02 Tundra (not necessarily in that order).
