Will the inverter be strong enough to run a microwave? I work construction and sometimes I wouldn't mind heating my food up .

No, unless it's a tiny microwave. Typical microwaves require 800-1000 watts. Your bed plug is rated for 400.

It's good for charging small batteries, or powering a few camp lights, but that's about it.

I think it's only 450 watts, so no. I sometimes use a portable 650 watt, and I think you can get a 2000 watt at walmart for about $75.

Can I just plug it in the back and it will step it up to 2000w?

No, an inverter would need to be directly connected to the 12V battery. At 2000W you would need to use very substantial cables.

They do make inverters with their own built-in battery (typically lithium) to avoid the wiring. For ~2000W they will cost $600-$800.

Tint and wheels. Decked box in the bed. S and B Cold Air filters under the hood. Shiftpower throttle response controller.
The inverter on my 23 hybrid does not run a small Skil saw like it should run. Bogs down very easily.

7-60 watt bulbs = 420 watts, that will give you an idea of what the trucks ac electrical system will handle.FYI

Wrap that food in some foil and throw it on the engine, it'll be hot by the time you get where you're going!!
