Hey y'all- first time to post in a toyota forum in a long while. 2008 Tundra 4.7l. About 230k miles.

It's my friend's truck; a good truck, that continues to run fine. It has had a check engine light on though, been on for about a year now. We would like to get the thing registered again and legally driving.

In the beginning, I think it was a p1340 and some similar code (maybe p1342). The traction control lights stay on and vsc light. I replaced the camshaft position sensor, with a denso brand. This changed the check engine light, to a p1343.

There is maybe three threads on this website mentioning that code, for the 2nd gen tundras. None were very helpful, most the OP seemed to give up in the end.

I have chased wires down, no noticeable issues. Getting voltage from sensor. Took truck to a shop, they said the camshafts are fine. Attempted to take it to a toyota specialist shop, and they turned me away. Said they can't deal with anymore 2nd gens with camshaft sensor problems. It tends to run away in labor and the owner's don't come back to pay the bill and abandon the truck.

The check engine light cannot be cleared, the second I erase it, comes back. Two other things maybe worth mentioning: 1) the new denso sensor came with a brace across the front, 2 screws holding it on; where the old one did not have this brace. I went today and took off the brace and reinstalled it. Did nothing. Was suspicious it was a cover for shipping or something, pretty dumb I know. 2) The battery in it was a little too small, was probably in there for 2 years. I replaced it with the correct size. No help.

Any thoughts? Would the VVT sensors have anything to do with a p1343? Could it just be a timing belt, or would that throw other codes?

    Thank you
