Slightly off topic, but the only engine that has failed in all the vehicles me and my wife have owned was her 2013 BMW X5. We bought it as a certified pre-owned from a BMW dealership with around 25K miles on it. We religiously had the same dealership do all the maintenance.

At 80K miles, the engine seized leaving my wife stranded on the side of the road. We had it towed to the dealership. They wanted $10K just to diagnose the problem (no extended warranty). Estimate for a new engine, if necessary, was around $30K. After months of battling with the dealership and BMW, we threw in the towel and accepted a $2800 check from the dealership, and we moved on.

My point is, no vehicle is immune to engine failures. We thought my wife's BMW would last for at least 150K miles without major problems. She loved that car, and it treated her well, right up until it didn't.

Even under warranty BMW seems to encourage the dealer to "just say no"...out of warranty...after they get through laughing...they draw straws as to who's going to say "no".

Ive had about 15 BMWs. They've been better than anyone else for giving me a break on stuff that crossed the warranty line. Porsche, Toyota and Ford all about the same which is to say awful.

Everyone gets exactly what they deserve. Glad the literal ‘best of the best’ just fell in my lap when i needed it. They let common folk too close to the sun & need to pay. Not from tax payers, but from the dipshits who bought that garbage.
