Is it safe to buy 2025 Tundra?

I am in the market to buy a new 2025 Tundra, the only hesitation I have potential engine issues. I know Toyota is recalled around 102,000 trucks, which will cost them billions of dollars to do this job. I feel like Toyota wouldn’t commit to such a large recall unless they really figured out the problem and are working to fix it, which is somewhat reassuring. At the same time, I’m seeing a lot of 2024 Tundras (likely early production models) available, and I’ve also heard about some 2025 models being affected too. It’s confusing, and although I’ve found a great deal on one, I’m still a little worried about the engine reliability.

What are your thoughts? Would you still go ahead and buy a new Tundra now, considering the recall?
Also, I’m trying to decide between a new 2025 TRD Off-Road package and the new 2025 SR5 XP package. Which one would you recommend for someone who plans to use the truck mainly for daily driving, some light off-roading, and occasional road trips?

    I'd say yes.

The XP package looks like the Gulf States TSS package.
    It's just some cosmetic stuff.
I've replaced everything in my TSS package except the wheels on my 2014..

I would research the TRD packages if you want something useful out of it.

Safe, unless your wife doesn't know about it. Buy a Toyota Platinum extended warranty from one of the sellers on this forum, they sell at just over cost. Do break-in oil changes at 500 and 1,000 miles. Good to go!
GM just announced more than 800k trucks recalled.

I bought a late 24, I'm not worried at all. No manufacturer is exempt from issues here & there. But I believe Toyota is taking care of affected vehicles the right way. And compared to how many they build, the trucks with actual engine issues is a miniscule percentage. Go for it! Enjoy it! And if it makes you sleep better at night, get an extended warranty from one of the guys mentioned on this forum for a fraction of what your dealer will charge. I did.

I bought an 11/21 build truck right when they were released...no worries knowing i have an extended toyota warranty. Good luck finding something more reliable at the moment.

I was heavily opposed to the direction of TTV6 in a truck. It had hiccups, but I've been worn down. Bought a 25 a few days ago.

Toyota at least takes action when there's an issue, and the build quality is light years ahead of the F150 I just got out of.

I bought a 2024 Platinum in September and have not had any issues. I did get the Platinum extended warranty. I'm very happy with the purchase. IMO all manufacturers go through some type of issues, but the only one I've read about standing by their vehicles is Toyota. I plan on keeping mine for as long as it runs and I expect that to out last my lifetime.

Yea GM fix is slightly cheaper at an oil change for the recall, with free salespeople.

Because they can propell themselves to the side of the road if the engine blows up?

Basically. They're supposed to maintain enough motive power that they didn't have to be included in the recall. The engines are the same ones, built in the same place, on the same lines as the non hybrids in the recall

There's some discounts now and dealers are cutting prices some. Cash buyers get an extra 3K discount outside the SE/gulf states Toyota area, or if financing the SR5 can be as low as 1.99% interest and Limiteds are as low as 2.99%.

I've had a '22 with zero mechanical issues, other than the other recall fixes. That truck was great.
Now have a '25 that I paid less for than the '22. This truck is built tighter and is even more fun to drive.
Get the extended warranty if it helps you sleep better and drive it into the ground. I'm looking forward to this being the last vehicle I buy.

2,200 miles on my 2025 that I purchased in late November and I’d do it again in a heartbeat. Ultimately time will be the true judge.

I too believed that, and heard that hear, but even so if it can limp "to a safe place" then what?
Am I, and everyone eles who bought a hybrid screwed?
I bought the Platinum extended 125K/10year and I'm really not concerned if the engine suddenly grenades, I think I'm covered.

I was talking with a old timer service mgr and I told him the same thing that it can get out of the way with it's own means and he said no.
I then said that it hybrids mfg here State side and in Japan that they have blown up,and he said that the hybrid engines are manufactured at different plants.

Weather it's true or not I honestly and do not really care, the way I see it is,it is what it is, and it is a know problem with a much different percentage from one vs the other and we on this site are not going to fix the problem,so
we can discuss it till our fingers bleed and key pads are all messy but the problem will still exist and let Toyota fix it for us.
This is one of the reasons I jumped ship from chevy they knew they had a problem but GM is very greedy and waited for people "like us" to get sign petitions and start an action suit against them, but Toyota takes pride in there products and are trying to make good and do the pro active thingy...

Again this is what I believe and hope that Toyota will follow through.
