Had fun out there this weekend. Met some cool peeps. Got a couple shots of "kinda lost in the woods Saturday", that's what I'm calling it anyway

Didnt do much wheeling there, just some fire road exploring to the north and drank a decent amount of beer.

The magnetic koozies were great for breakfast beers with breakfast tacos...





I also won the SDHQ A-pillar mount raffle. Now I've got some light shopping to do since the BD light package is heading to FL

I'll gather the recommended replacement components and start working through upgrades. Thank you both very much, and head-nods to all of you on the surgical teams, and all that participated in crowd-sourcing ideas. It was beyond impressive, working through, I think, three distinct causes that contributed to the failure on the GFF course. Fixing 'em so well that I could drive home hundreds of miles unescorted and trust that is all good, is why I have unending appreciation for you guys... and why my fambly doesn't balk at letting me attend.

Thank you for saying; I enjoyed meeting her too! I'd fully intended to spend more time in camp this year, get to know y'all better. I hope, next year, we can keep it together and avoid so much time in urgent care.

As for the failure, I'll report more later, but the short version is:

infective ground going into the trip + ineffective clamping down of a replacement battery immediately before GFF + I forgot to wear my special GFF socks. Basically,I activated HULKSMASH mode; the battery hold down came loose and connected with the positive terminal; instead choosing the 3" path to the negative battery terminal, the lightening bolt traveled 5' feet for the hard brake line to where it connected to the truck frame as the best ground, frying the soft brake line that extends back from that.

After we expended fire extinguishers to solve the immediate problem, added New Guy Nick's vice grips to staunch the bleeding, an emergency transport team helped us limp back to camp. Where the head doctors stepped in.

 

Satirical diagram for entertainment value. In short (pun intended), had the missing link (negative post to chassis ground) been in place, the incident would've been semi-contained under the hood at the battery as the path for the current to flow would be from the battery hold down to core support, through the missing link back to the battery. With the missing link, well...missing, current flowed through the powertrain ground to the 4.7L of vroom, boxes of gears, spinning crayon, perpendicular pumpkin then making its way up the extra spicy fluid filled electron noodle which happened to be the weakest link in the electron path...turning it into a smoldering, red hot brake fluid burning contraption.

In all seriousness, it is safe to say that we're all glad to see you and the truck home in one piece.

Kudos to the community for all stepping up and making it happen.
