Perhaps it's a silly question, but do you guys and gals occasionally spray off your engine?

I live in the country 7 miles from the nearest pavement. My engine compartment gets very dusty. I've always sprayed the engines off on previous trucks without problems, but I'm hesitant on my Gen 3 because of the insane amount of electronics.

Am I worrying about nothing? Any tips or advice is welcomed.

I do it normally like any other car. Just avoid spraying directly onto the ECM or fuse box.

Thanks. If you don't mind, exactly where is the ECM located? I'm being lazy and don't feel like searching.

I spray all my engines. I have a Gen2 5.7. Take the plastic shroud off. Don't spray hard onto any of the
    plastic boxes that protect stuff.

Should be like any car. Spray don't pressure wash. Working on construction site, leaves my bay a bit dirty also. Been so tempted to buy one of the aftermarket hood with the hood vents(I know that sounds terrible to some) and worry about the rain.

What do some use a a cleaner for the bay?

I like to use Koch Chemie Green Star in a Foam cannon.

Thank you. I'll avoid spraying that area. I'm not hoping to eat off my engine, just want to knock the dust off, occasionally.

Once a year, using Simple Green, a garden hose and a couple of brushes. It looks good for a couple of months afterwards.......detailing season here in NW Pa. is only 3 months off.

When I wash the car and rims, I sometimes open the hood and wash the engine bay with the same car wash. I have been known to spray some parts with Griot's Garage 3 in 1 Ceramic Wax.

I do not, I do wipe it down with a rag but don’t spray water on it
I would like to but if it screws up something my wife would yell at me and say
You should never hose or clean your engine. Now look your truck is not starting. You dumb @$$

Guy I know takes like a gallon of purple power and soaks the engine and then climbs in there with the pressure washer on full blast and goes to town and says he's never had an issue, I have trouble following that methodology so I leave the pressure washer on the "idle power" and rinse it down.

I used purple power on my boat hull to remove black streaks and washed the deck with it
I bought it at Walmart just to try it but the best degreaser I ever used so far is awesome from the dollar tree
I get the quart for $1.25 with ou5 5he spray top . I use my own bottle. So for quarts makes a gallon $5.00 a gallon. It’s the best so far. But if I was going to wash my engine I would use joy liquid soap

I use ArmorAll foaming tire cleaner on the engine and engine compartment then I just rinse it off. Leaves a nice shine on plastic bits and hoses. I don’t use a pressure washer, just the hose so that I don’t force any water into the electronics.

What about all those connectors with wires going into them? I am super worried that if I wash mine, next day it'll do click click and not start anymore. So much sensors lugged in everywhere!

I never voluntary add any water to electric circuits.

Put floor fan at the side on max, blow dust off with compressed air.
