I just cleaned my truck up yesterday and noticed my wheels that are only 2 years old have all started peeling with the clear coat. Discount Tire told me to bring it in tomorrow which is who I bought from, and they would look. I’m not feeling confident in the warranty from Vision as their website states 1 year on finish. I didn’t buy $1k wheels but really didn’t expect these to peel like they are. I’m hoping DT will at least work with me on some type of credit towards newer wheels but we will see.

Am I too worried about this and more wheels peel than I’m aware of? Will the clear coat being gone hurt anything?

This wheel is by far the worst but all 4 have places in them.

I have purchased many aftermarket wheels, never had one peel like that. I would see what they can do for you.

Well, Vision wouldn’t do anything since the wheels are 2 years old, their finish warranty is only one year. Discount tire said they would give me a $210 credit towards a new set of wheels, either the same thing or any others I find.

I’m in a pickle because I like the ones I have but I’m hesitant on getting another set that may do the same thing. I know if I don’t replace them now, I likely never will. Maybe I’m over thinking but I don’t want them to look really bad and dingy in another year or so.

Pick a new color, sandblast and get them powder coated

A local guy around my area said for stripping these down and powder coating them all, I’d be looking at $600 easily. Haven’t had a lot of luck getting prices locally.

I would contact Vision again, and thank them for responding. But don't ask for a thing. Also, tell them that you will be posting a review video on Youtube ( "Vision wheels finish peeling after two years" ) as you don't want other buyers to run into the same problem. But you're just letting them know as a courtesy.

    Then sit back and wait.

Hi Tundraites! - Reviving an old thread. I too am having this Vision wheel finish peeling issue - unfortunately out of warranty. I contacted Vision and they said that this is clear coat peeling from residual brake dust - Lol. I initially though this was plastic peeling but they said it was for sure clear coat. I asked them how to get rid of this and they said to use aluminum wheel polish??? I doubt that that will have any effect. I was thinking about using lacquer thinner. Any ideas? Thanks!

Brake dust can be corrosive to most wheel finishes if left unchecked.
In order for aluminum wheel polish to work you'd need to be down to the bare aluminum with no clearcoat remaining.
That would take quite a bit of effort.
Then you have bare, unprotected aluminum. Shiny, once you polish it, for maybe a week at best.

There's no easy fix here IMO.
If they were mine I'd bite the bullet and pay to have them refinished. Blast and powdercoat. Assuming you like them enough to keep them.

Gang, you can check with your credit card, assuming you paid with one. Don't remember who, but visa or Mastercard extend warranty by 12 months max whatever manufacturer warranty is. Maybe a look in your CC contract or a phone call may help. Good luck.

Hi Team - Thanks for the fast reply! I'm going to try this method after I try some lacquer thinner. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8W9jn90VEAY. I've never had to polish any wheel I've ever had so this will be a first.
