Give a listen to this and tell me what you guys think, please:

Seems to only happen once in a while, usually on Monday morning when the truck hasn’t been running since the Friday afternoon before. I usually go out and start the truck to warm it up for 5-10 minutes before I leave in the morning. When this noise occurs, it’s usually after it’s partially warmed up and it’s crazy loud, especially when parked with the driver’s side next to my wife’s car. It will stop doing it after I’ve driven up the street for about half a block and won’t do it again for days. Very random.

I took it to a shop four months ago and told them I thought it needed the drivers side cam chain tensioner done. They kept it for a week and could not duplicate. They weren’t comfortable doing the job unless they were sure of what it was. Had them just change the oil (5w30 synthetic), belt, and spark plugs while they had it. Didn’t make the noise again for four months, until this morning. 73k miles on this 2018 Crewmax. I think I got one built in a Friday because I just got done replacing the alternator that shit the bed at 65k.

Picked up a mechanic’s stethoscope on the way home from work today to see if I can better pinpoint it when it happens again. I’ve checked for loose heatshields as well and they all seem tight.

Ok my two cents... my 2011 tundra would do the same thing timing chain rattle. I notice that they type of oil I used it would be better or worse. Lots of short drives under 1200 rpm it would do it all the time. Truck made it 365000 mile with the rattles. I could have some one change my oil if i was busy and it would do it I could change it my self and not do it. But either way its nothing to worry about. Car care nut on YouTube explains it very well why it does it.
Nothing you can really do. I would run 10w 30 in summer 5w30 in winter. I ran Castrol not synthetic. It was changed early on . Another story for another time.

These motors are certainly a little pickier with the oils, especially in the 0W20 range, i.e. M1 Advanced Economy makes the valve train much noiser. Regardless, this is not normal Tundra valvetrain noise and changing oils isn't going to fix it.

Its a hydraulic tensioner even after you fix it it will do it again. Mainly the passside.

Either a tensioner or a collapsed hydraulic lifter. I have replaced a lifter before for the same issue.
