So I have a 2001 Toyota tundra SR5 was heading out to Mavericks in half moon bay when all of a sudden I lose my drivetrain, no power moter starts up fine no moving though I had it towed home and found it wont stay when put in park ,checkthe parking pawl everything looks good there ,whenever i move it from reverse to park i hear a winding noise ,it goes into 4hi and 4lo but wont move the propeller shaft spins but doesn't engage any idea where i should start was about to start trying to figure it out but I'm not sure where to start

Where does movement stop? You say the prop shaft spins ... is the pinion flange spinning? If yes, then something is toast between the pinion flange and the axles. I'd find it highly unlikely if you snapped both axles...

I did recently replace the front CV axles I've spoken with some friends and they think it's my rear differential

I've read a couple of threads with people who have the same problem but no one post what the exact problem was or what it took to fix

You need to identify the final point where driveline rotation stops.

    Like ...

If the driveshaft isn't spinning after the output shaft of the transmission, that suggests it's something from the tailshaft of the transmission forward.
If the driveshaft spins from the carrier bearing foward, but not the carrier bearing back, your carrier bearing is potentially shot.
If both sections of the rear driveshafts are spinning, and the pinion flange is spinning too, then potentially the pinion shaft, pinion gear, or component of the rear diff grenaded/broke.

You get the gist, right? Where does shit stop moving?

It’s not uncommon for the spider gears inside the 3rd member to strip out on the 1st gen tundra.
