Which transmission contol solenoid controls 5th and 6th gear??Check engine light on, VSC light flashing, and skid warning light on. Won't shift into 5th or 6th gear. Diagnostics code P0983. Saw a youtube video showing transmission control solenoid "D" as 3rd from rear (blue) connection as fix. Replaced that one and didn't fix problem.(Although olms tested way out of working range on old one)..Help, please.

Change your fluid. Make sure you check fluid level and clear all codes.

I did it...Changed fluid when replaced solenoid...I cleared the code with high dollar diagnostic tool and removed battery cable.. Code comes back immediately either way. Problem was intermitent at first but constant now. Thanks for reply..

May be a wiring issue. I had that with a torque convertor clutch problem. I would reset and would come back. I replaced that solenoid and solved my issue. So far I'm 4 solenoids in.

Similar but different- this was my experience with the shift solenoids on my 07.

    https://www.tundras.com/threads/p0973-shift-solenoid-“a”-control-circuit-low-advice-help.109939/#post-2909951

I realized some of the links in my post were gone, tried to find the links with no luck. I did find this article that discusses the solenoid functions and codes.

    From the article
"Code P0766 is a Shift Solenoid “D” Performance code (Shift Solenoid Valve S4) S4 stuck OFF malfunction or brake control valve malfunction shifting to 5th and 6th gears is impossible."

Thanks for all replies. It could be a wiring issue. I just didn't think so since "D" solenoid tested bad after I removed it (blue one, 3rd from front). The original diagnostic code was "P0983 Shift Solenoid "D" Control Circuit High". And like nOrth said, it won't shift into 5th or 6th. I was about to order whole solenoid kit but will try to test wiring going into plug at transmission first. I have has rats under the exhaust cover, so wiring problem not out of question.
