Generally, I like my Tundra. Strong performance, amazing tow capacity for my 8500 lb boat, decent ride, handsome styling.

Buuutttt, the stereo and phone integration technology is archaic. The big screen does nothing really. Just shows what music is playing and displays maps. No controls of anything in there.
The thing that drives me nuts is the CarPlay integration. My 5 year old Ram did it much better. My Mercedes, Sentra, VW, Terrain, all do it much better. The volume sometimes reduces properly but most times does not. Things talk over each other. Google maps only says the first few words than cuts out. Volume levels change. It leaves a lot to be desired for a technology that has been around for a while now. I know it is a small problem in the world, but come on, everyone else gets it right.

    Rant over.

I’m confused… the big screen does everything with CarPlay all other cars do. What can you do on other cars that you can’t on this truck?? :monocle:

I can say that it’s solely on the apple carplay side. I have an apple personal phone and an android for work and the android side things are much better. Volume turns down when using voice commands and resumes after, same when gps is speaking. The music pauses when you take a call and resumes after, sometimes apple continues to play and when you finish the call you’re on a different song. I have the android set up with my mlb app so when I connect it displays maps, music, and mlb scores.
It’s not a huge problem when I’m using apple but it definitely gets annoying sometimes.

I hate how when you’re listening to the radio and do something on your phone and it plays over the speaker it takes so many steps to get back to the radio

What works for me is just keeping phone bluetooth turned off. I use SiriusXM only though and texts and calls can be made when finished driving, or hands free speaker, if there is an emergency or something that can't wait.

I have none of those problems with CarPlay in my '23 1794. Google maps works perfectly, Siri commands work well. Incoming and outgoing calls work as they should.

My only complaint is the radio volume doesn't automatically mute when using handsfree text messaging. You have to manually mute the radio volume in order hear the text readouts.

Same, if I have the music loud I can’t hear the messages but on the android side it doesn’t do that so you know the head unit has the ability.

Must be user error. All of these settings can be changed in settings on the iPhone. I have been using CarPlay on 3 different 3rd gen tundras now and never had a single issue.

If you know what iPhone settings will make CarPlay automatically mute the radio when it reads out text messages, please do share. I've tried everything with no success.

The odd thing is Google Maps and phone calls do mute the radio, as they should. It's just handsfree text messaging that doesn't.
