Im replacing the rear brake dust shields cause they are very rusty, and doing the rear brakes also.
Is it possible to re grease or service the rear wheel bearings at the same time? The bearings are not giving any trouble.

Best thing you can do is change the gear lube and ensure it's at the proper level.

The bearings are lubricated by the gear oil/lube.

Is this true?? I think that the axle is sealed off from the bearings on these and are packed bearings with "lifetime" grease.

Where did you source your rear brake dust shields? Can you share p/n & price?
I've been told these are very expensive parts for 2nd Gen.

i got them from the Toyota dealer. I don't think they are available from alot of places, not in Canada anyway. They were $103 Canadian dollars each. I have to say, they are very heavy metal, not cheap knock offs! I also had to buy two rear seals as the axels have to come out for the job. The seals were about 30 dollars each. I haven't done the job yet. I'm hesitant on getting the axels pulled unless absolutely necessary.

The rear axle bearings are sealed in their own grease. If your talking about the backing plate as the dust shield, you have to press off the old axle bearings, and that means new axle bearings

I just did the Dormans on mine.

I've used their pre pressed axle before on a GX470 and they held up for years with no issue. A local shop also uses them and claims to not have ever had one come back.

My rear shields had rusted away and were causing grinding. I also had at least one bad bearing. All fixed now.
