I don’t use any of that shit

 

100%. We tried to keep our kids off social for as long as possible and in the end allowed them to be on it with limitations. If we just kept it from them without boundaries they would've found a way to sign up anyway and use it to their detriment. We also have a rule that they must allow us to go through their apps and social accounts and keep up with their activity. That way we can use their choices as teaching moments of how to responsibly use social media.

 

FTR, this is my only social media account I'm active on. I have an insta account, but don't actually post anything on it or spend much, if any time on it. As an older fella I think social is bad for society in a lot of ways but becoming part of this community has proven me wrong about that mentality.

My son just turned 28 and my daughter will be 30 in a couple weeks. Doesn't seem possible.

 

When my brothers got Facebook, my mom told them they had to add her as a friend so she could see what they were posting. I never got on there and I think they've both since deleted their accounts.

My wife had to get insta this year because our daughter's preschool posts pictures of what the class is up to on a private page.

 

Just here and Tacoma World and a combined FB account with the wife. We just use it mostly for the marketplace. Even that can be a nightmare. I swear, any mouth breather can have a FB account.

I am amazed at the peeps that have snuck into our circle. We "friend" of "fallow" no one. The comments that our so called normal friends post just makes a person wonder.

 

Only 5 months into retirement and reduced to this.

 

I tried Duolingo in an attempt to learn Mexican.

then, I found out it is directly linked to FB.

that's what I see...you have so many latin countries coming here* and each of them has a distinct dialect.

I was attempting to learn STANDARD Spanish, because it appears all the Mexicans can generally understand regular spanish.

in the real world, (you know -border states), ... the compounding factor is....they are, generally speaking, not educated.

so, they only know their language from human interaction.

Similar but not the same... I learned (a few years in school which really doesn't count for shit) Spanish, and it's definitely a bit different than how folks from Mexico speak; especially in dealing w/conjugation, etc... Kinda like how it is for different regions of the US, such as Canada

I've been told I speak Minn-eh-SOH-ten. Which is kinda sorta like Canadian without all the "eh?'s" or the "aboot."

 

So that's why all the women I know from Dallas pronounce it "thank ewe" instead of "thank you?" Tracks.
