I knew a couple people that got buy backs plus $5k checks from Hyundai when their Theta engine failed.

Toyota fix is better IF the new motors don't have issues. If they do a big fat check to move on is better

Toyota unwillingness to warranty the new engine for 60k miles is cheap cheap.

All I keep reading is that new engines in new trucks still fail. Less frequently, but fail. How a replacement crate engine is better than the factory original one, that came out of the same assembly line - I can't understand. I also can't understand what is so different about V6TT oil galleries that it suffers from uncleaned machining debris, while old V8, made by same people, on the same equipment, in the same factory, using the same or now even subpar cleaning technology, is virtually unknown of any main bearing issues, even when supercharged and the bearings are put to a similar stress they see in V6TT? And why the biggest car manufacturer on the planet can't sort it out for the engine that was first introduced in 2017 and is hardly new in 2025? What is going on?

I think they spun up a new line just for the replacement engines. Not sure if that means entirely separate for all stages or just assembly, but whatever this line is doing seems to be better so far from the “Post Long Block Replacement” thread. I do find it strange that it hasn’t made its way over to the other lines yet. Time will tell if these new motors still fail. Just surprising.

I have a 2024 hybrid. All I know is if mine grenades due to the bearing, I will be raising holy hell with Toyota for a long block replacement. I won't get it, but I'll feel better. This was my first Toyota product, and so far, it's not providing me the peace of mind everybody said it would. Even my buddy, who used to be a blind Toyota fanboy, won't touch Toyota with a 10 foot pole right now until they get their poop together. I'm still not buying the debris issue as the cause. Toyota been building engines for decades, now debris is suddenly an issue? I call BS. It's either engine design or poor quality bearings.

After purchasing 16 new Toyota vehicles since 1984 (9 for me, 7 for wife), you can be sure I will raise holy hell if they try to stick me with a short block repair!

This scares the crap out of me. With a 24’ bought in 11/23(believe manufacturing was 10/23), I’m not in the recall but fear mine is affected too. We’ve gotten 19000 miles so far with only real issue is a intermittent ticking noise every couple seconds in drive thrus since day 1, and the rpm’s go up and down in drive which I find weird. I know it’s only 1% failure rate but I need this thing to last 150-200k miles. Anything on yours that alerted you of issues other than knocking?

A/C compressor engaging in the first case and torque converter unlocking in the second.

Rebuilding your first engine, and first transmission, and first transfer case, and first on-car welding, and first electronic repair brings peace of mind that nothing can happen that bad that you can't fix yourself. It's no longer an expensive box that is ready to blow up any moment and drain you pockets dry, it's just another potential project.

Gang, not everyone has the skill and/or time to dig in. If my pickup imploded on the way to work, I don't have luxury or skill to spend couple weeks under the hood.

This is why I bought toyota, so I don't have to deal with this sort of thing unexpectedly.

Yeah, that's why I have 3 vehicles for 2 drivers. Two of them are Toyotas. Two is one, one is none.
