    I have a 2018 tundra 4.6L 2wd no tow package when I tow my 5k travel trailer should I tow in D or S mode what is more fuel efficient and safe on the tranny any recommendations from the community will really help.

    I would tow in s4, but consider adding a trans cooler if you dont have one

    Your owners manual tells you all the cool stuff like this. Tow in S4. Use a brake controller and a WDH.

    Thanks for your input yeah I’m adding a brake controller and a transmission cooler to my tundra specifically before going out west with a heavy load or inclines in Florida we really don’t have much of anything steep it’s all pretty flat but I will use the S4 will probably be better on fuel

    Sorry to break it to you, but the words "Towing" and "Fuel Efficient" go together about as well as the words "Married" and "Picking up Chicks". :rofl:

    Fuel mileage is gonna' suck no matter what, especially if you go faster than 60-65 tops, but S4 will limit excessive shifting, which generates heat, which kills transmissions.

    Definitely add the cooler, and pay close attention to keeping your torque converter locked up as much as possible.

    S4 will keep the converter locked very reliably, the engine is making a ton of power at that rpm.
