Probably more detail than you expected, but we have an entire article on this exact question. [Take a look here]

High end shocks are not just for off-road use, they also offer amazing street comfort when setup properly. Lets be real, most people only spend 1-2% of their time off-road per year. Cheaper brand shocks will certainly work and may be totally up to your demands, really up to you and your experiences and expectations. If you plan to keep the truck for a really long time, it makes a lot of sense to invest in good parts if your budget can allow for it. Blocks in the rear are fine for appearance reasons, but you shouldnt expect any performance gains. Replacing leaf pack is a good option for lift height and if you plan to add more static weight. This will help keep the truck from squatting as much, but may also lead to a more firm ride when unloaded. Shocks with adjusters are great, but only if you think you will make adjustments to them and not "set it and forget it". Adjusters allow you to firm up the compression to keep the added weight under control or firm up for more aggressive off-road driving. Lots of options with brands like Fox. If Fox or King is an option, shoot us a message and happy to talk through some options that provide a great ride.

Valid points, i do intend to keep the truck for the foreseeable future, i bought the last model year of the V8 for a reason. The price point is only an issue as far as how long it takes to feel comfortable dropping that kind of money. Im a do it once and do it right kind of person when it comes to things like this. To your point though, i only feel id be likely to adjust the dampening if i were to tow my wheeling rig off road to a trail head or something and im more inclined to set it and forget it. I have adjustable suspension on my project car and i more or less dialed it in to my preference when initially setting it up and left it that way. Not gonna lie tho, the wow factor of having an awesome suspension set up is a want, i just dont want to do it if im gonna regret the ride quality when its all said and done. Iv never been a fan of blocks as its a form over function thing, but i also dont want to make my rear suspension more firm for daily driving. Im thinking a lift shackle willne the route i go. I appreciate the feedback and if i decide to make a move ill reach out to you.

As far as differences in the factory race series and the elite performance series of Fox? Also, do you have any knowledge of what would be the best option for a ride height of 2.5" to 3" actual lift? I put 2" leveling spacers on my stock suspension to see what kind of ride height that gives since it was a cheap way to get an idea. With bigger tires, i feel like 2.5" would be ideal with 3" being the heighest id want to go worst case

3" or more it's recommended you get aftermarket upper control arms

From all the reading iv been doing, its my understanding that 2.5s require UCAs as well?

I have a set of Total Chaos UCA’s and also Coachbuilder tie rod ends ready when I put my 2.5 DSC’s on.

Since everyone is saying they’re getting 3” or more of lift; what is everyone doing as far a differential drops? Or if you opted to not install one, how are your CV angles? Personally I think they do more harm than good, but if I get as much lift as everyone is telling me, Im going to use a diff drop.

many years ago when I did a 3” level kit of my 2010 without a diff drop my CV axles sprayed grease everywhere.

When i had my level kit, i installed the diff drop. kept the diff drop installed for my fox shocks.

I'm not sure what your first question is. I believe the best lift height will be about 2-2.5" of lift. We focus on shock lengths at ride height compared to their overall travel vs the desired lift height. Often times we find the lift height range for these shocks from Fox is a little on the tall side for what we recommend. If you are wanting the taller lift height, than I would get their Performance Elite series coilovers that are labeled for 3" of lift. They will require an aftermarket UCA.

From my experience servicing vehicles at toyota the past 10 years, the cv axle boots dont tend to take a beating with or without the diff drop unless you're 3" or higher. Cant say how much off roading our customers do with their lifts, but i dont see a ton of cv axle boots failing either way without a monster angle on them

I was just wondering how the Fox Factory Race Series compare to the Fox Elite Performance Series? I just dont know what the difference is, and im for sure NOT looking to be on the taller side, im looking for ride height of 2.5" to max of 3" over stock in the front with 1" rear

I guess a better way to put it, with part number FOX-880-06-946, would it be reasonable to assume i would achieve roughly a 2.5" to 3" increase in ride height over stock being that they are labeled 2"-3" lift?

That install was quite a while ago, so unfortunately I don't know the specs. I'm going to assume that was the 2-3" lift front coilovers.

Finally got around to installing the 2.5’s w/RR and DSC. I didn’t measure before and after, but I’m nose high by 1.625”. Assuming something like a 1.5” factory rake, I essentially got 3” of front end lift out of the box.

I’m going to try and spin the collars down to see if I can get closer to 2.5”, this way I can put coachbuilder #2 shackles to bring the rear up by 1.25”.

I was disappointed for the first couple drives, as it was a harsh ride even with the DSC’s backed all the way off. I didn’t change tires out just to keep the ride quality the same for comparison. It has since softened up a little bit, so I guess the shocks really do have to “settle in”.

    here are a few pictures

The resi mount from the factory is terrible, location wise. Any other options to get that out of the way?
