Ok so I don't believe I wouldn't describe this as a ticking or screeching noise like a bad pulley or etc. The noise usually happens on a cold start. It start and keep going for a out a good 4 or 5 mins and then it goes away. Car drives fine. No cel or anything like that.

I just got the truck. From my little knowledge the truck is bone stock still.

Almost sounds like a heat shield touching something
Other thought it sounds rhythmic like a pully bearing or something and goes away when warmed up

I'm going to be changing out the serpentine belt, tensionser and the idler pulley very soon also. Thank you for the input.

The engine has a normal tick sound, the up and down revving like sound is NOT normal. I would say a pulley or a tensioner of some kind.

the tick sound is just normal drive train.

Here is a video of normal engine noise throughout the years to help compare. I found it helpful with my own work.

Also, does the noise get better when warmed up?

I know the ticking is normal. It's that rattling or weird sound. I don't know how to explain the sound into words. Once the truck completely warms up the noise goes away but if I let the car idle for a say a few mins it comes back sometimes only for a sec or two and goes away again but much quieter.

Spray some water on your front belt, if it gets louder, the tensioner is worn or belt is worn.

if it gets quieter, you have a pulley misalignment issue.

let me know how it all goes

Sprayed some water and one of the pulley/tensioner started to screech. I plan to change them out anyways. Once I change out the serpentine belt, tensioner, and idler pulley. I'll give an update.

Nice, cheers, hopefully something resolves for you. These trucks are infinitely better than any newer one. I love the 5.7 L v8s!

Sounds like a power steering pump low on fluid in a 1973 Chrysler Cordoba.

Ok update. I changed the idler pulley, serpentine belt, tensioner and even did the water pump because I notice a small leak. I did everything myself. Slow and steady making sure nothing is forgotten. The noise is still there. Next thing to do is flush out the power steering as I notice it is a bit dirty. (Noise is still there)

Before you do anymore might want to get a stethoscope and test the remaining belt related items and different parts of the engine structure to help isolate the sound location.

Ok after flushing and changing out the power steering fluid. The noise did go away. It doesn't make that noise anymore. However after a drive I notice the power steering whine a little. It comes and goes but barely noticeable. Notice a whining noise coming from the driveside also. I believe pinpoint it to the ac clutch/or pulley. Turned on the ac and watch the clutch engage. I did notice the a/c clutch would stop and then re-engage. Ac light inside doesn't blink and blows cold.
