    Hi gang,

Need help replacing or repairing left side(driver side) tailgate latch sleeve. The plastic has cracked and is pretty worn. Does anyone know a replacement for the sleeve only? Or if it's replaceable part?

I've seen some sales of the whole hinge mechanism, but it seems silly to replace the whole thing when only the plastic condom part is worn out. Thanks!

    Thank you, gang!

For $42 w/ free shipping I'd just replace the whole thing.
I don't think that bushing is available separately..

This shows you what it is in there that you'll be dealing with and how to remove the strut.
Detach the strut and replace the hinge..

Thank you, Sir. I'll be ordering the hinge assembly.

My apologies for "ho gang", i meant to say "hi gang", but sometimes autocorrect doesn't work and it makes sound rude.

    New one came, but:

I cannot get old one out! I think factory paint worked as mega power threadlock!! Stripped both heads. Now drilling them out! Tried extractir, but she just turns inside the hole without grabbing.

did it come with new fasteners? Did you get the old bolts out with out messing up the threads? Other than maybe painting it to match, just reassembly, bolt it in, reattach the tailgate damper shock and replace taillight

Part does not come with fasteners. I had to get new one's.

After drilling, top part detached, but bottom part was a little trickier, because I couldn't get drill perfectly perpendicular to hole opening, so I had to drill at an angle. That made me use a much larger drill bit to successfully detach the bottom screw. After that, remaining part of the screw, that was left in the frame, I was able to use pliers and unscrew it from inside the tail light well. See pic below for explanation

I quickly ran to ace hardware to get new screws, and I also picked up nylon sleeves because hole in the mechanism is larger than shaft of the screw. See pictures for explanation.

Top hole required one sleeve, bottom hole i bought two, because it's sort of like a well and nyl9n sleeve falls in. Having two in there keeps both of them in place. See pic of bottom hole. Note white sleeve in the bottom hole.

NOTE: main reason you cannot just buy plastic condom to fit in place of cracked one is because it wraps around that thing and won't let go. See fits for explanation. It's on really tight. Maybe you can slide it off new part by hearing it and then sliding it on the old mechanism, but I didn't want to risk cracking it, so I replaced the whole mechanism that came in the mail.

I plan to keep her bare color. Maybe paint later, not sure yet.

As a positive side effect of the repair, tailgate lowers even more gently. Mechanism stiffness is contributing to the gentle lowering of the tailgate, coupled with shock absorber inside lamp well. Look!
