    Hi all
    I've been lurking
my 27 year old chev L29 left me walking, not a major failure, just difficult for me to work on. it's parked until warmth comes. we're in the rust belt ,
Wife says buy a new truck, and as I am a gm guy . but it's not simple anymore.

This use to be , just find a color the wife likes, thats all she cares about . thanks EPA for mudding this up .

    GM: i want a v8 w/o afm/dod , A8, 2.7 turbo or a Diesel
already have a car with the 8L90E,it has the "it acts as designed " hard 1-2 first shift of the day. so they wanted a hard shift?, hmm
Can't buy a ford (even if I loved it)! Due to me badmouthed them to my ford friends forever:)

Dodge is still a maybe, i have to know more about the 5.7 issues

    Tundra, requires more info

I was really surprised about the 3.4 issues, for some reason it didn't pop up in my earlier search,
people I knew decades ago were 100% diehard Toyota.
maybe a longer delay in shopping is needed to let the dust settle

    thanks

What is your usage of the truck? Hauling/towing,
Daily driver, race car, off road? Or if your like me "all of the above"
the tundra is lacking a bit in the payload department, that's why I ask.

basic transportation few times a week & tow 4 times a year 60 miles
I don't need the 1 ton capacity,8-10 mpg, in the past i have grossed 24k ,22k was more comfortable with it.
so now loaded trailer maybe 7k-8k ,
most chev 1/2 tons handle it fine, keeping a decent tongue weigh & always having trailer brakes working

Just my experience with the Hemi 5.7.
Had one in my 2011 Grand Cherokee and lifters on cyl 3 stuck at 148,000 destroying the cam shaft and sending metal through the entire engine. Luckily I had a free powertrain warranty that covered another engine.
On the forums it was quite a problem up to 2015 in any Mopar vehicle with that engine. Some believe part of the problem is the cylinder deactivation crap.

Chevy 6.6 is also a no AFM motor. Probably not available in 3/4 ton though. The GM transmission shifting issues can be remedied or minimized with Lubegaurd platinum additive. The issue with those is the thin ATF that GM uses for MPGs.
