2006 Tundra 4x4 SR5 DC with 193k miles going on 1 month of ownership. I've been lurking on this forum for awhile consuming lots of information about Tundra's.

Fairly clean frame. Surface rust just barely starting, no rot. I’m in Minnesota so a bit of rust doesn’t bother me. I plan on getting it woolwaxed yearly.

    Goals for this truck
-Be a reliable daily and adventure vehicle for the next 5-7 years
-Build a bed drawer and camping system
    -Occasionally tow a small boat

So far I have done(all Toyota or oem manufacture)
    -LBJ and new hardware
-Tie rod ends(boot was torn on old one and leaking grease)
-Rear/front diff and transfer case fluid with new washers
-New plugs and boots(7 of 8 coils were cracked…yikes. but they all seem to work fine. I’ll probably buy a few spare to put in glove box)
-New maf sensor, 4 new o2 sensors, pcv valve, air filter, gas cap, cleaned throttle body
-All 8 drive shaft zerks greased

Things I plan on doing in next month
-Timing belt(was done at 170k, but timewise 8 years ago), water pump, radiator and hoses, and thermostat
-Belt tensioner assembly, idler pulley(both have play and make noise spinning by hand), and serpentine belt.
-Transmission drain and fill, just the 3 or so quarts that are in the pan. Then in 5,000 or so miles do another drain and fill.
    -Steering shaft bushing

    Concerns
-I believe the SAIS pump could be on its way out. No codes, but it makes a high pitch vacuum squeal/noise and then a distinct vacuum shut off noise after 20-30 seconds. I'm looking into bypassing it, but I do live in a cold climate and have seen some have issues with that. I'll probably make a thread on that.
-P0420 and P0430 codes, they didn't come on until after I purchased the vehicle. That's why I bought the new MAF, o2 sensors, and cleaned throttle body. Codes did come back as pending on my scanner, so that work might not have solved it. Fortunately I live in a non testing state and MPG doesn't seem to be that bad. The check engine light is still annoying. I haven't checked for leaks yet, but I will.
-Looser than expected steering. It's not so bad to where I swerve going over a bump, but it is looser than expected. I'll probably try the rack bushings and then after a bit of time put a new rack and pinion in.
-Kinda noisy valvetrain/injectors, but I guess the sewing machine sound for these trucks is normal and expected.
-Some sections of the frame are filled with dirt. Once its warm enough to turn water on I will be pressure washing the inside ASAP with a sewer kit. I do not want any moisture stuck inside the frame and I also need to get the inside of the frame clean for when I take it to the underbody shop to get the woolwax inside the frame rails.

Overall I'm bit more stressed than expected after buying this truck. I wasn't expecting to have some of these issues. But I guess that's the way buying a 20 year old truck can go sometimes. But I still believe it has a solid foundation and it will be worth putting a few more thousand into getting her happy.
