I have a 2004 Tundra, SR5, 2wd with a crew cab. It has the 4.7L 2UZ-FE engine. I don't know if it has the LSD differential or not. There's a sticked beside the fill plug, but it faded put. When I took the plug out, I couldn't see any gears, but it just looked like a flat piece of gray metal.
After 113,000 miles, the fluid looked extremely clean.
    My questions are:
    1. Do I have a Limited Slip Differential?
    2. If so, should I change the fluid, even though it appears very clean?
    3. What is the correct fluid to use?
    (Weight, synthetic, additive, etc)
    Any help is appreciated.
FYI - This truck has not had a tough life. Barely used until last 2 years. One owner.

It has to be documented somewhere if it was an option that year. Maybe take the vin to your dealer and see if that will shed some light on it. If it's standard for that year, that should be easy to find out I would think. Make sure what you have before you change the oil, LSD takes specific oil.

Thanks. I really need something a little more definite. I thought it might be defined in my VIN, but haven't found anything that defines it.

You can use the Toyota website and use your vin and see how the vehicle was equipped but rarely does that tell you if it had the LSD or no. You'd probably have to get the dealer to look it up on their stuff.

Thanks. I've been to the website. Didn't really help me, much. I may check with my local dealer. The folks in the psrts department know me fairly well.

Put a jack under the diff and see if your tires spin opposite directions. If so, it's an open diff.

I can pull it up in the Toyota system to see.

Shoot me the VIN and I'll look it up on Monday if you remind me.
