Let's see 1st gen with Toyota Rims

I still have mine. I Just can’t bear to get rid of them. Also in the back of my head I’m kinda wondering if I’m ever gonna want to go wider again. My current ones are 7, so 275 is max tire width.

 

Fine as long as you’ve got stock tire size. If you plan to oversize, be wary of suspension rub.

 

I got the wheels for the price listed.

I picked up some 285/70r17 Wildpeaks on Facebook marketplace with 60% and 80% (ish) thread for around $300. Mounted and out the door, I was right around $1k.

 

Update:tried using goo gone since dip doslver takes a while to ship directly from vendor and didnt feel like waiting. I only used a friend's hose spray nozzle setting and didnt have a pressure washer...it did absolutely nothing even with spraying a good amount on and letting it settle for several minutes...may try again at a self service car wash with a higher pressure sprayer after letting it settle longer. Scraping with a plastic razor barely did anything either and would have taken literally forever.

 

WD-40 is another one I hear people use

 

Yeah i saw that as well, im hoping a decent pressure wash at this car wash will do it with the goo gone. Maybe have a can of that as a backup. If all that fails I'll just order the dipp disvolver and push this project back down the list a bit

 

Letting Goo gone sit for 30+ mins and adding multiple layers (almost whole bottle) and pressure washing at car wash did diddly and/or squat. Scraping with a plastic razor and nylon brush again did next to nothing either. Didn't try WD-40, cant imagine that will do any better. Seen videos of people using PB blaster, rubbing alcohol, brake clean, mineral spirits, or even gas. Also read other's experiences of spraying more plasidip for a couple layers will allow the old layer to peal off along with it after a few mins--who knows, but willing to give almost all of these a go until I find one that works.

 

Have you tried a little heat? Like from a heat gun?

Goo Gone isn't the miracle product it gets touted up to be. And the smell is acrid to me. It works great to get smoke/oil residue off stainless steel, but as far as removal of misc coatings, sticker adhesive, and all the other things I'd expect it to work great at, it's not that great. 3-in-1 oil works better for that stuff, even if it's off-label for the product.

I think the big thing to do is figure out what product you're dealing with. Get something thin and plastic, like a plastic flat razor, up underneath that coating and chip some off. Is it hard, break in half vs. bend? Does the surface of the wheel look scuffed? If so, they may've actually painted the dam things.

Yeah I've been questioning WTH it actually is now thats on there. It looks too thick to be paint, it could be that the dip is baked on at this point and been on for a long time. But when using a plastic razor on it, it does break off in hard tiny chips if I chip away at it enough. And it does not bend and it looks clean and does not leave any scuffs underneath

 

Another option. Plasti-dip right over them MF'ers nice and thick. Rock em as long as you want. When you're tired of them, the dip will likely all come off as one. Thin dip is the hardest to remove. Go watch Fonzie's dip videos on YT. He's got all the OG pro tips.

 

I think I seen that today, seen a few videos and theories that this happens when its too thin but it doesn't seem like its thin. Either way this will probably be what I'll end up trying

 

Stock wheels. I'm probably going to keep them, too. They've grown on me.

Thanks, I thought it was only ok. The fashionista said nope. So like a red door, they got painted black. They live on only in photographs. I love the muds best, but harder to commute with.
