Last time there was 76. The "pier" was the go to place to eat. Real sushi. No real fresh sushi in CO. Keep dreaming you got real sushi in CO. I know. I lived in Japan for 5 years. Fight me!

 

Just for clarification what is real sushi?

 

Even "real" sushi is frozen for food safety. That's why people don't get sick (or brain worms) from it.

 

Nothing in CO. Fresh cought a couple hours ago. Sashimi is keen for freshness. Fresh butchered goat, bbq'd on Okinawa summertime beach kiosk was to die for. Anymore questions?

 

Real has nothing to do with how fresh or old the fish is. That would be the freshest, which obviously a land locked state like CO isn't serving. But that has nothing to do with making it real. Now if a sushi place isn't serving it on a rice made with vinegar, that would be a qualifier for making it real or not.

 

LOL. Couldn't disagree more. 1800+ days assigned to a Marine fighter jet base just south of Hiroshima is my qualifier. Don't even go there about making it real.

Just gonna play devil's advocate here: So how long ago was this time in Japan and the Philippines?

Because I am guessing everything used to be carbureted and ships were diesel powered back then. It may have been how it was done, but that doesn't make it so today. Food standards have come up a long way, and most fish for sushi is frozen to kill parasites. Sure, you'll find some specialty places that will have a live fish in a tank they pull up, but nobody is getting tuna that hasn't been frozen to remove parasites. Just because it once was doesn't mean it always shall be.

Yeah, all Japanese and Phillipino fishermen are using nuclear power now. Get real. Nothing has changed. Go live there for awhile. I still have friends in both countries. SMH. Asians eat fresh seafood. We get the flash frozen or thawed out seafood, unless you live on the coast. Wyoming is not on the coast.

 

I'm not disqualifying that your duty station was in Japan where sushi was invented. Nor am I saying anything about CO sushi in comparison. But if I'm eating sushi at a restaurant in CO owned by a person who grew up in his family's sushi restaurant, I would define that as a real sushi restaurant, serving real sushi. Because if you truly think that your short lived experience on a marine base compared to that of a native japense sushi chef is more qualified as an expert, then you my friend have reached the stage of old timers syndrome. I'll even take it a step further and ask that you go tell that real Japanese sushi chef in CO to his face that he isn't making real sushi here. Because I would bet a good chunk of money he would fight you.

The fried cheese curds were a fail but the burger was legit.

House-made buns, bacon jam, Wisconsin cheddar and onion rings.

 

And we don't have ports all up and down the east coast, west coast and the gulf? Plenty of fresh fish is eaten in the states. And plenty of well trained chefs make it daily.

edit: And you living somewhere for even a decade or more doesn't not make your distorted definition of "real" a truth. Real is defined by technique. And how the rice is prepared.
