I picked up a new to me '16 1794 on Saturday. The dealer installed new (cheap) tires on the truck as part of their intake. I feel like this driver front looks like it's a little low on air, based on how it is sitting on the shoulder. I checked the tire at it's at 36 psi - the door jamb actually calls for 30f/33r PSI which seems crazy low to me.

What do you all think, does this tire look low? Is anyone actually running 30/33 PSI on the OEM tire size?

Those do not appear to be LT tires, so the pressure would be fine at 36psi. Kelly is a sub brand of one of the bigs. Can’t recall if it’s Cooper? They are a decent tire, but budget for sure.

edit: Goodyear owns Kelly. I don’t care for Goodyear tires myself, their cheaper ones are hot garbage for traction and wear. Many swear by Duratracs, which I’ve never owned, but all of their low end stuff has been disappointing. I have to image the Kelly’s are similar to their low end stuff.

What does the tire say is the max psi? When I picked my 2020 up from the dealer they had the tires at like 38 psi and it was riding pretty rough. I dropped it to the recommended pressure in the front and a couple of psi below recommended in the back when it's empty and I'll bring the back up if I'm hauling or towing something. It rides much better now. What pressure you can or should run depends on what load the tire is designed to carry.

Do the chalk test to know for sure, usually surprising as it will show lower pressures than youd think when unloaded.

32 is pretty normal for standard load with Tundras/SUVs in this size. 36 is likely fine too but the chalk test may show the edges of the tire are beginning to not be in contact with the road.

I am not familiar with the chalk test but I will check it out - thank you! I couldn't get past the visual of that one tire looking slack compared to the others, but have not had a chance to check pressure in the other 3 for comparison.

Otherwise, it's riding smooth around town, with a little steering bump/wobble at interstate speeds so I think I will have them rebalanced.

I have run 33psi cold all around on P rated 275/55r20 tires for the last 60,000 miles. Perfectly even wear at that pressure with 5k mile rotations. Most of the time I’m loaded within a couple hundred pounds of my GVWR.

Yes the fronts look low at that pressure. They should wear right unless you’re always cornering hard, then you will start to scrub the outer lugs off the fronts more quickly.
